my common app essay (topic of my choice) is completely ME. yet its frustrating because it doesn’t fit into any of the 3 QB essays perfectly, it is 700 words long, yet not biographical in nature (i didn’t talk about factors growing up, challenges etc. at all)…it is more about my way of thinking/diversity, but i absolutely CANNOT take out 200 words to make it fit the 500 word limit for the other 2 essays.

WHAT TO DO?! i haven’t ‘finished’ any of the 3 QB essays so far…so frustrating.

also, is it bad if ALL 3 of my essays are focused on one central theme (a passion)…just one thingthat shaped my life in 3 dif. ways (and thus 3 essays)? what do you guys think?

hey all, I’m a bit confused with a sending in the scores process. I want to make sure I’m doing everything correctly. SO, I want to send/fax the SAT/SAT II/ACT/transcript scores to QB. So, I see my guidance counselor when school starts, and he faxes it? I’ve never used a fax, nor do I have one. I’m not quite sure, I’ve read the relevant threads and the QB site. I just want to check that it’s all good.
Thanks

^ Code H…I’m not a person who’s had a terrible upbringing and a traumatic childhood like some QB applicants. I’m just poor. My essays were about passions (2 of them specifically) and I LOVE my commonapp essay, it most represents me…but it really doesn’t fit in at all to the topics (even the autobio). So, I’m just going to save it for the commonapp, there’s nothing else I could do.

So if I’m selected as a finalist, I have to send official transcripts to the colleges I ranked, right?
Should I send these myself or have them sent by my school?
I’m worried because we have a short time to send additional materials to ranked colleges after finalist status is announced.
What I’m wondering is what makes a transcript “official.” Does it have to be in my high school envelopes?

Hey GA2012 mom, i haven’t taken the ACT or SAT because I wasn’t ready in june, but i was planning on taking the ACT in september and three sat subject tests in October, so my question is since the application is due september 30th and the ACT is september 12th, will they accept my scores later and will i be accepted to be a finalist w/o them?

muffinish, you will need to ask for official transcripts at your high school. Some schools can take as long as three weeks to get transcripts made. Our school prepares them once a week. My guess is high schools vary as to what they consider an “official” transcript. At our high school it is a photocopy sheet with the student’s name, address and date of birth along with the school’s address and, of course, the student’s classes and grades. What makes it official is that the registrar who prints the transcript embosses it with the school seal and signs and dates it. Here, the student is responsible for sending out transcripts, so they aren’t in a school envelope.

@ go to college…I’m so jealous, I wish I could send mine in, but my teachers for recs. haven’t responded to my emails. I’m worried that when I ask them for one once school starts it’ll be too late and they’ll just dis me. UGH

I am registering for the October SAT II’s. Should I send score reports by clicking on “Send Reports” to only the four colleges that I am Matching?

Would these scores get to the colleges in time for Match consideration?

In addition, how many SAT II’s and which kinds would I need for Finalist consideration? Thanks!

No you shouldn’t send score reports now. You send them after you become a finalist. So you would send reports some time between 10/23 and 11/2.
For now you just fax your scores with your transcript.

I don’t think you need SATIIs for finalist consideration, but most partner colleges require or recommend them.

@xctf: Don’t stress it too much…i have to wait for my teachers too T_T the thing is thought that you have to be close to the teachers writing your recs to begin with, so i doubt they’ll refuse or ‘dis’ you.

I’ll probably be pressing THE BUTTON on like the 25th or something XD if even that good…

For Finalist consideration, I should let counselor fax SAT I and/or ACT scores by September 30th, then provide official test reports to the colleges I am Matching between 10/23 and 11/2?

For Match consideration, I should also send official test score reports for SAT II subject scores (depending on college-specific requirements) for the colleges I am Matching between 10/23 and 11/2?

I am taking the ACT next week, and I already clicked “send score report” to my four Matched colleges. This was the correct thing to do, right?

I am taking the SAT II subject tests in October. I wouldn’t need to send reports until after I find out about Finalist standing. Is this all correct?

Thanks for answering. My registrar embosses, signs, and stamps transcripts as well but I can have her send them if I want to. I guess I will just request a bunch of transcripts and mail them myself. I’ve been in my counseling office so often lately that I think the registrar is tired of me…

question about income:
my parents combined made >60k this previous year. As of now both of them are out of jobs and our house is worth about 100k less than what we bought it for.

Is it still worth applying for qb or will it be a waste of time?

@socal12: Well there are other factors too…do you have any other siblings/ family members your parents have to support? Do you have money saved up for you to go to school? Do you see your situation potentially worsening?

Those are just some of the questions you should be asking yourself. If you think that you are low income enough and that this scholarship is going to mean the world to you, then the only thing you have to lose is time…
