Okay, so I’ve been noticing a lot of angst over standardized test scores. Here’s what I think will qualify you for QB finalist the most considering that the application is sent in completed and whatnot…and please correct me if I’m wrong.

SAT score averaging like 1950 (something)
Income / family situation
Minority helps (which I’m not…)

Actually, that’s all I can think of right now. Is there anything more? I’ve always thought that if would be harder to get into the colleges you hope for than it is to make it into the QB finals.

PS: Just how high of a reach are those big 4 colleges (yale, princeton, mit, stanford)… I hope test scores aren’t everything.

Crystal91, minority is NOT a factor in determining if you are a finalist or not.

Everybody needs to get over the “big” school factor. Big name school does NOT mean that is the best school for you (even if your parents think so!)

The other QB schools are wonderfull, and probably more fitting for many of you if you would get over the “name” thing! I can assure you that my D, who was matched to Amherst, is much happier than going to HYPS, even though she had a good shot at all of them. My point is DON’T go for the name schools for just the name. I have noticed a lot of you are fixated on these. You are setting yourselves up for a letdown. Your happiness does not depend on if your school is HYPMS!!!

I got a response from Questbridge:
“You should arrange to have your September and October test scores sent directly to the colleges you rank on your College Match application. I do not know whether they reach the schools faster if you list them as score recipients at the time you register (versus having them sent once your scores come out).”

So for both my September ACT and October SAT II’s I could wait until the results come out, then send official reports to the individual colleges that I am Matching after the Finalist results come out October 23rd. I DO NOT have to send score reports right now. Can someone please confirm that this is correct?

tomjonesistheman…my D took a Sept or Oct. (notsure) ACT and had those officially sent to the partner colleges that she was applying to. She also sent the unofficial report from the ACT site to QB. Not sure if it was necessary, but that is what she did.

But he is not mailing them - QB wants him to fax it… I don’t know if they will want him to fax an approximately 4 page profile along with the transcript.

Why not? That is the job of a GC. I’m not sure why your profile should be 4 pages long anyways, but if it is, your GC only has to stick 4 pages into a fax machine. I guess I’m not seeing what the problem is.

Everybody needs to stop overthinking everything. Just follow the directions on the QB match homepage, and everything will be fine. I know it is stressful, but try to just chill!!!

is anyone else doing this one: A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your background, please describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

@MOM: first off, you rule. Secondly, how do I send my Sept./Oct ACT and SAT scores directly to the ranked schools? If I’m not mistaken it only lets you send the scores to 4 schools. . . Also, can’t I just wait until I receive my scores and then send them? (I know the OCtober SAT is counted for finalists during the match process. Thanks

^Dude I had the same question. Don’t send it in when you register, you don’t have to. Wait until the scores come out then just send score reports. You have to send it by November 2nd along with other requirements, so you have time to wait for the scores to come out.
I’m not sure why people send it in directly.

So I looked on the website. But do we really not need to send any official financial information (like W2 forms, etc)? Or at least before Sept 30?

Whoah, I just noticed that this year, we don’t need to submit the Common App or it’s supplement for Penn or Yale (Penn now just has a quick separate online form, no essays). That’s awesome! Makes it so much easier.

And yeah I’m pretttty sure financial stuff is not due on Sep 30
