@llama: AAHHH I HATE MY LIFE. I’m applying there this year through CommonApp.

And i just read on that same article that out of like 2,470 people who became finalists last year, 1,402 ranked Yale as a top choice. Kill me now T_T i am so not gonna get in there.

Haha i wonder what the numbers for Wharton are…probably just as ridic.

@Ju_liaa: I’m leaning towards not applying via QuestBridge because not only am I against closer deadline, I might have insufficient scores to be a finalist, as well as incomplete scores because of my SAT IIs. Besides, I think that when I apply through RD to my colleges, I will have a “complete” package: my complete and most recent SAT I and II scores, more time to achieve a better application and work on my resume etc. I think that the obstacles and hardships I had to overcome can be incorporated into one of my essays, where appropriate. I just don’t want my colleges to see anything that is less than the best I can achieve because I don’t think QuestBridge provides enough of an advantage to negate any shortcomings. Do you think that is a valid argument?

And also, what private schools would you recommend? I am looking to major in Biochemistry/Pre-med or Pre-law. I am currently applying to Georgetown, Duke, University of Chicago, Yale, Columbia, Cornell(maybe) and University of Florida(instate). Any other ideas?

I suggest that you guys create a Google Alert for Questbridge. Some really interesting things pop up, they aren’t ridic with the emailing, and you don’t get any spam.

@Pemdas: If you truly feel that you can’t provide your best work by the time the deadline rolls around, then it is a valid argument. However you should also remember that not becoming a finalist does not mean that you can’t apply to partner schools, and becoming a finalist/ not getting matched brings you to regular decision. Just something to think about.

Also, i would seriously recommend that you look at the following schools. All are rated amongst the best in the country in the disciplines you mentioned. Williams, Bowdoin, Carleton, Wesleyan, and Swarthmore. Uncoincidentally, the majority are QB partners XD

I’d also take a look at these old threads:

My parents don’t make a stable income. The unlucky thing is that last year was the one year they made a lot of money (about 130k). However, the years before the income was 40k, 80k, and 40k (these are each different years). Is there a chance I could get this scholarship? (My stats and etc are up to par.)

I know of people (slim but there are a few) who get the scholarship having parents who made over 80K. While it’s not all about income, statistics on Questbridge do show that those who make finalist have around 1 to 2 % whose parents make over 60,000.

If you have other factors that can affect you financially/socially, then by all means give it a try.

If your stats and etc are up to par, I bet you can get a scholarship into a great deal of colleges through RD alone :)

But do you think I would qualify financially? Is the 130k all the questbridge ppl will see? Is there any way to show them that my income is unstable (Other than stating it, i’m talking about evidence that it’s unstable)?

Greate: I think you’re wasting your time by posing the question to us. I’m sure i speak for most of the people on this forum when i say that the best we can do is speculate. If i were you i would email the QB team and ask them if there is a way to demonstrate your financial instability and to show that it is by far unusually high this year.

Greate, I think it may not be feasible for you to become a QB finalist. Schools are looking for students that are Pell Grant eligible, or close to it. Even though your family has had varying incomes over the years, FAFSA, and CSS Profile are going to look at that one year that they made the $130,000, and unfortunately, probably you would not be considered because of this. However, still inquire to questions@questbridge.org to be sure.

I understand that if you are selected as a finalist, the schools require you to submit to them a CSS Profile, test score report, and transcript. If we do not get matched but still want to apply to those schools through RD, do we need to submit those forms over again because it would cost a lot of money to do so. I am confused on whether or not we would have to re-submit those forms because the link below shows that some school wants those forms for RD. Would they just use the ones we submitted for match round or would we have to submit again is what I am trying to ask. Thanks :)

Guys i got this thing in the mail saying that i’m a National AP Scholar with distinction? I’m sure a lot of you guys got it too.

My thoughts are that this isn’t really a big deal, and that it’s just one of those awards that the College Board comes up with for funsies. I’m sure it only means something if you got National right? Lol sorry if i’m like…demeaning the achievements of others with my question

EVERYONE! I have a question about my faxed transcript and all. OKAY so it shows that my school profile was received (3 pages) and my transcript was received (1 page) NOW, when I click view the transcript, only the fax cover sheet shows. Is there a problem, does that mean my counselor only faxed the cover sheet and not the actual transcript? (considering it said only “1” page) any help???

@xctf:
I had a problem like that when I faxed my things too. You should fax it again this time and the webpage should display both the cover sheet and other forms like your transcripts and test scores that you faxed at that time.

@powerbomb: I’m not sure about the whole international issue but I do recommend core class teachers because that’s what Questbridge is looking for (that’s what it said under teacher recommendations). They strongly recommend that.

When would be a good day to ask my teachers and counselor about the recommendations, and transcript, and such? On my page, it says that they have not yet started, but I don’t want to nag them, especially because they are doing this voluntarily for me.

@Narusakuu: I reminded all of my teachers on the first day of school, including my counselor. I said ‘no pressure’, but that i just wanted to let them know that they should be taking a look at it, and that if they needed anything from be that i would gladly provide it.

PS my math teacher told me that when he got the QB email and logged in, QB told him that it was mandatory have it all done and sent at least a week early. Don’t you just love them?
