Hi guys, I’m back sorry about the long hiatus.
Powerbomb, internationals are generally scrutinized much more than US kids because most colleges simply don’t admit as many int’l students. For that reason I’d recommend following the guidelines and suggestions as closely as you possibly can- that way its harder to eliminate you. But before I did say and i’m not moving away from this: if you have a great EC teacher (and debate is closer to academic than many things) and a great core teacher, that seems fine. My sister used two academic recs, but my friend used one of each and both of them were accepted into some pretty good colleges.

@Narusakuu: here is what I’d do: go to your teachers and say “I’m sorry if this sounds like nagging, but the QB recs are due a week early and I just wanted to make suree you had all the info you need. Do you know when you’ll be able to get to it, or when you’ll be finished?”
Chances are they are swamped right now with school and they usually can handle the normal rec dates, but these are placed in a difficult time slot. They’ll be sympathetic to your plight, but know that they probably already have either put time into it or set time aside for it. Either way, remember that teachers are probably the most underappreciated group in the US and they don’t have much time on their hands: be sympathetic to this cause and you can get whatever you need from them.

Stanford does not accept the Questbridge application. So - for Stanford National Match, you submit just the common application and the (Stanford) supplement. Correct??

But, does Stanford ALSO receive and READ the Questbridge application from Questbridge itself ??

In other words, if you rank Stanford, does Questbridge send Stanford your Questbridge application ?? and does Stanford actually read it??

I want to know before writing the (Stanford) supplemental essays.

I can have more fun and leeway in the supplemental application if I know Stanford has read the Questbridge essays also.

I’m also waiting for my Teacher Rec to be sent in… I’m getting more anxious that it’s not left until last day. My teachers have been alerted to my needing their Recs. since Spring!- I think I’m going to have to ‘gently’ remind them about the deadline!

@Gettocollege: As i mentioned before, once your teachers log into their QB rec accounts, QB gives them a specific deadline of at least a week before the 30th. That being the case, the latest you’ll have it is the 25th.

^ But what if they haven’t even ‘logged in’ yet???

I have one quick general question.

On the QB site, it says that if you are matched with the colleges, then you must withdraw all applications to other universities, but what about the five schools that aren’t binding? I am ranking Stanford as my number one choice (one of the non binding schools), and if (by some miracle of the gods above) I am matched with Stanford, does that mean that I will not be able to apply to other schools outside of the QB program for regular decision?

In that case i’d go put a rocket up their @sses so they log in soon…XD
Pardon my potty mouth.

^ ROTHLOL! I agree but I think I better be more diplomatic!

I have another question. I can’t seem to figure out how QuestBridge obtains the copies of my tax returns. How do I submit the tax returns to QB?

(btw, Thanks for the suggestions guys)

^ You will send in your FA info. to QB colleges you have ranked *Nov. 2 (Fax?) but only if you are a Finalist
Otherwise you have until Reg. Decision deadlines specific to any other colleges you are applying to.

thanks
Gosh, I’m still wondering whether I should apply (pretty sure I can get everything done).

So, does QB make their decisions on the finalists before receiving your tax forms? So then anyone, even making hundred thousands could apply and become finalist (but not necessarily get matched)??

Yeah, but think about how bad that will look if colleges see your questbridge application and your tax forms.

I think that the chances of people lying are very slim. Plus, won’t you get legal punishment if you do that?

lol, no idea. I was just wondering though, because of my unstable income. It’s not realy lying, exactly…

The college gives the FA - not Questbridge - so when you send in the Tax information to the college - you will only get aid up to your need…!

I’m not trying to cheat the college (like that’s ever going to happen). I’m pretty sure I won’t be matched because of my parents’ income in 2008 (read my other posts in pg 77). But since my parents’ income’s unstable, most of the time during my middle school and high school life the income was just a few thousand above the avg questbridge matcher.

I’m just wondering if I have a chance to get matched as a finalist. I’m sure our 2009 income will certainly get me some aid in the $$ department.

Can anyone else with an unstable income help answer some questions?

I don’t now if there’s any advantage for you to apply thru QB - I think your chance of Match is pretty slim - you will probably get just as good a FA package applying yourself.

Even thru QB - some colleges will not match if there is ANYTHING above $0 as EFC.

$0 EFC is pretty hard to show up even with very low parents income.

If you yourself make any $$ at all to help support your family - that’s counted in too…and most colleges count in home equity (although you may have been paying off a house mortgage for years and years!)
That’s why if you read through 2008 Matched Finalists - their stories are really severe hardshps.

ok, thanks for the advice. I’m certainly not hoping to get matched, as I said, just to become a finalist.

Don’t know if this was asked previously, but :

Do we HAVE to ask the same 2 teachers for QB and the common app.? Or can I ask teacher A and B for QB and teacher A and C for common App. I already asked my debate teacher for the QB app but Yale doesn’t want a debate coach.

@powerbomb: You’re supposed to use the same two, but since you already have one wrong but it’s going to be good, I’d get a new one and use the debate one for QB.

so just use the debate coach for questbridge purposes, but ask a different core class teacher for the common app? but don’t the QB teacher recommendations get forwarded?
