Another question. What are we supposed to write for the biographical essay? I guess… the topic is very broad. Do we just choose an incident and talk about ourselves like we do with the common application’s personal statement? When I read over the sample essays on the QB website, I was amazed. I mean, I’ve never been beaten and my mom hasn’t ever been addicted to anything - we just never have any money. So there’s nothing as outstanding as that.

so, when I “receive” my transcript, when I click view should I see only the cover sheet OR the cover sheet and my transcript on the next page(s)?

@applicannot: Are you recieving the QB emails? They are quite helpful in answering these questions. If you aren’t (could you opt out?), try to start getting them as they are very interesting and helpful. They went pretty in depth in the last letter on this very question. I would say that you don’t need to model it after anything: when you get some writing inspiration, start writing. As long as it has to do with you, you’ll probably be fine. There are a lot of differing answers and directions in this very thread, so just browse for a while and I’m sure you’ll get some sort of inspiration.
Oh, and many (many) QB applicants haven’t had outstanding horrific experiences. Don’t expect the lack of abuse in your life to hinder you- it really won’t.

I second alexandrafitsmor. My D had no bad things to write about. Yes, we were poor, but had a great life, full of joy and she went to great schools. Write about you, what made you tick as a kid that made you who you are, a great student, a great son/daughter. They would rather hear about you. Your transcript speaks for itself, as well as your test scores. Make them want you, the individual, to come to their campus and add some interesting facet to it. Is it music, are you a political activist? Do you want to change the world through ??? Are you the next Dan Brown, you have a novel in your head, are you Julia Roberts in waiting? Sell yourself, sell yourself, sell yourself! This is your goal in college admissions, make them want you. Some quirky activity that you hid from all your friends may be your ticket in. Think outside the box.

wow applicannot I had the same questions as you! Yeah I was really worried at first that I wasn’t underprivileged enough because my parents aren’t addicts and I don’t chop wood for a furnace to heat my house, etc. Applicannot do you mind sharing why the Stanford person believes you’re a shoe in? like was it your SATs, gpa, ECs?

Well, her word isn’t the word of God, so I’m not putting much stock into it even though I’d like to. However, about 50% of students become finalist - it’s the matching process that is difficult. My Stanford contact spoke to her boss at Quest, who said I was a shoe-in. I’m guessing it was a combination of my scores (which she knows roughly), my character, and my situation (I have a couple of unique factors, like I work extra to pay for a private education + I’m very low income for Stanford’s standards).

If we want the October SAT to count for the match process, do we HAVE to send it directly to the colleges or can I wait for it to come online and then fax it over?

^I already asked this question. The conclusion I made from the responses was that you could wait for the scores to come out, and then submit to the individual colleges themselves by sending an official score report. (the deadline to submit these additional materials is November 2nd, while October scores come out October 29th)

I was on the QB website today, accessing my profile. I was trying to fill out the Teacher Recommender form and…I was having technical difficulties trying to figure out how to enter my teachers’ information.
Could someone help me out?
Thanks! :D

@MOM: I was just wondering if it’s ok to have my counselor send my transcript in already? My recs (including my counselor’s) aren’t done yet, and of course i haven’t yet submitted my app, but i hear people already checking to see if QB got theirs yet…

Should i wait to have everything done or is it ok to start sending stuff in without everything being completed?

Also another short question. What’s your take on sending in a resume?

Can we send supplementary reccomendations to QB for the Sep. 30th round? I would send one from my boss over the summer (he absolutely adored me, asked me to work again with them next summer and offered to write a great rec even before I asked him!) Or are we just allowed to send the two recs from teachers? I really do think a supplementary rec would help me a lot, but I just dont know if it’s allowed!

You can probably send in a supplementary rec, but don’t send in more than one extra. If you feel like you shouldn’t, then contact the colleges you are going to rank and ask them. I don’t think it would be a problem.
