National College Match - 2009-2010

But they only accept test scores up til June right? I’ve taken all of the testing required, but I plan on retaking because I didn’t do as well as I could do now. Should I wait for ED and take the tests for the higher score?

no i definatly know that you can take the sep. and oct SAT and ACT as part of your scores that you submit. I have to look for it again but I know it was talked about over the summer. I also think it is in the section were you put your test scores. I believe there is a comment that says that if you are going to take later tests then please put the date of the test and what kind. (sry for not having the direct comment or link right now but it is like 1:30 am here so I need to go to bed) Plus I also know someone called them over the summer from this forum and got that straightened out. But if you still are unsure I can send you the link later on.

But I have a question. If we took college courses like dual enrollment. Does that college have to fax them over to questbridge. Also for test scores do you need the official one or is have the score you received on your school transcript good enough?

Hmm…that’s a toughie…

Well you can do QB without even ranking Columbia and leaving it for RD. If you think you can better your SAT/ ACT score significantly, by like 100 SAT or 2 points ACT minimum, then i wouldn’t do QB because then those scores aren’t considered for finalist status and are sent to the school late. It’s just one of those situations where you have to weigh your options. What is most beneficial to you in the end?

Hey everyone don’t be creeped out cause i friended like all of you. It’s just that I’m looking forward to seeing where we all end up, regardless of whether we make it through QB or not :)

Oh man, so many options :(. Well, to do the Questbridge RD with free applications, I have to do this application anyway, so I figure I’ll do it and decide along the way.

For the Match Process, the last date students may take the SAT is early November; the ACT date is late October. Regular Decision applicants must take the SAT no later than January and the ACT no later than February.

I just read that for Columbia. I’ll probably do the app just because I’d still plan on doing the Regular Decision and talk to my teachers about whether I should apply for the Match or not. I plan on retaking the ACT and all that.

So I guess the way it is is, you can’t submit your scores to see if you’ll get into finalist range, but 50% of people become finalists. But you can send the scores to the schools you want to be matched with.

@Obstinate: What do you mean? You should still be submitting some sort of scores to QB for the first round because they say it themselves on the website- it is SIGNIFICANTLY harder to become a finalist without them. I’m guessing that by ‘significantly’ they don’t mean a slight disadvantage.

WHAT!?

QB cut my essay by FIFTY FOUR WORDS! How am I going to go from exactly 800 down to 746? Why say 800 if it’s really 746?

Also, the QB website sucks. It keeps jumping around from page to page without my clicking anything…

@Applicannot: I know! I spent forever to get it down to 800, only to find out later that that wasn’t even good enough. Thank god i finally narrowed it down enough to fit into the QB space. Hopefully the people i have editing it wont reggest i add anything too major…then i’d be in a real bind.

You know, editing and revising was fail for me. There’s a reason why I hate letting other people read my stuff… and why my first draft is usually the best. I did it, but then it was just too many chefs in the kitchen… my revised piece barely resembled what my original piece looked like. I scrapped the content revisions, took the grammar edits to heart (most of them concerned style anyways), and threw in a few of my own changes.

The essay pasting worked fine for me; the word count in QB was the same as it was in Word. I was able to do 799 words for the biographical essay.

Obstinate -
Submit whatever scores you have now. Don’t freak about re-taking unless you are pretty sure you can get over 2200.
If your QB App can show VERY unusual circumstances, tests scores are only a % of the App.
Go w/QB, rank Columbia & Brown, hope for Match.

QB app will get a more intensive ‘look’ and you will have a chance for the most FA w/QB.

If $$ aid isn’t a major, major factor - Go w/ED to your first choice
(We are all here for QB so my guess is that $$aid is major?)

I have to take Oct. Science SAT2 (for MIT) - Self-studying - UUGGGHHH. My QB app done & gone! - Working the Supplements for (other) apps + trying to fit in breathing time, work, school stuff, Ec’s, ZZZZzzz 's and counting down 35 days to Oct. 23.

Just noticed this on QB website -

“Columbia University requirements for Regular Admissions
More information coming soon”

(Everytime I re-read, I find something new - good to be aware if stuff is changing)

Brown looks to be complete now?

Thanks GetToCollege. I’ll definitely be doing the Match. Nothing to lose really. We find out if we’re finalists on the 23rd, so there’s still time. Plus I like the extra essays :). Thanks!

Columbia Reg. Decision Information now on the QB site. Hope the site information is complete for all schools now.

Yeah Obstinate, I’m going to Rank for the best chance at Match - How can we lose if matched and get a free ride? All the QB schools are great schools, I can ‘fit’ in with any of them. (Well - maybe I’m not for Parsons - he, he)

Especially I’m UP about Brown through Questbridge.

Anyone have any thougts about Washington & Lee??

Do you think there is a better chance for Match during the first year a college participates with Questbridge?

Maybe worth a shot from my small rural school? No one else applying thru QB (at least that I know about)

Ju_liaa - Thanks for ‘friending’ me & Think positive!
WE WILL MAKE IT THRU QUESTBRIDGE
FINALIST with or without Match or maybe Reg. Decision & w/great aid - We have to believe it!

11 days 'til PUSH!

As I waste time while considering the two entire essays I have to write (haven’t even started) by, uh, tomorrow night - excluding seven hours of work, preparing for my flight on Sunday, shopping, showing, and sleeping - I’m starting to think I WON’T make it through QuestBridge… I completely forgot I’m going ot be gone all next week college visiting… which basically gives me right now, maybe an hour or two tomorrow, and the Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (before midnight) prior to the 30th. UGH UGH UGH. WRITE WRITE WRITE. This had better pay off. Seriously.

@applicannot: haha i think we can all agree with your last statement. It WILL pay off. It has to somehow…

PS im just worried about the amount of people doing QB this year. If it goes up to say…6,000 kids, i highly doubt that it’ll be the great 50% chance of becoming a finalist that kids had last year :/

Oh and thanks Ju_Liaa for friending all of us! :)
