National College Match - 2009-2010

Well this is going to sound ridic to you guys, but it truly is a small world. My mom got an e-mail from QB for a kid named Jason Bullock asking her to write his rec! XD

We were like…wah?

Anyways, i read the letter that they send to teachers and it said the QB strongly recommends that they have it in by the 25th. If you guys want just give me your email and i’ll try to forward it to you.

@GoToCollege: Thanks a lot! And don’t freak out about your teacher recs just yet! The same thing is happening to me where i try really hard to contact them but none of them, not even my GC, has started! I’m giving them till Tuesday (which in my opinion is incredibly generous considering all the time i gave them to begin with) and then I’m gonna have to be really upfront.

What about Rolling Decision private schools (like Drexel) because I started a free application there before I even knew about the College Match?

Also, is it okay to submit a regular decision application for a non-Questbridge college really early (some colleges require this for financial aid reasons), so early that if I had chosen the Early Action option (which I didn’t do) the application would have qualified for it?

I’d like to second the question about rolling admission applications (to either public or private colleges) and really early submission of regular decision round applications. I suppose some QuestBridge applicants would be advised to apply to “safety” colleges on either basis, to make sure of getting space or financial aid in programs that fill up fast.

if you are dual enrolled do you need to send the transcripts from that college to questbridge?

@Ju_liaa - “I’m giving them till Tuesday (which in my opinion is incredibly generous considering all the time i gave them to begin with) and then I’m gonna have to be really upfront.”

QB ‘strongly recommends’ recs in by the 25th - faxes take 48 hrs to process = Sept. 23 (WEDNESDAY) Freaking out here!

@venividifugi, tokenadult et al - Re: Rolling Admission - I don’t see anything on QB website about that??
Good point - ANYONE have an answer?

@GetToCollege: Ugh yeah i guess you’re right. Monday is it then! And I’m still not totally freaking out but i expect to be in a couple of days >.<

Panic mode: Ds took classes at a four-year university as part of a summer camp. Does he need to send that transcript in???

QB states you are only prohibited from applying to any schools EA, ED, or SCEA. Rolling admission schools would be fine.

Youdon’tsay, if your S got college credit for the summer camp class he took, he needs to send that in as well.

Wait what is rolling admissions? Is that all the free applications I’ve been getting in the mail? If so, i think i might do that for Fordham, Ursinus and Drexel! That would be really great :)

^^^^^

Don’t forget “free” applications aren’t really free. You still need to pay to have your scores sent to them, and have to once again bug your GC and teacher’s for rec’s!

Yeah it’s fine if i have to do that you you still save like $50 on average which is pretty good. I might giv eit a shot!

How do you verify that they’re received your school profile/test scores/transcript?

Everything that QuestBridge receives is noted in your online locker. It was very gratifying to see today the arrival of a letter of recommendation in my son’s file.

It is the typical admission process at many state universities, and some private colleges with low selectivity (but there are exceptions to saying it this way). It means applications are considered as they are received, with no particular deadline, until the entering class is filled. Here are the official National Association for College Admission Counseling definitions for admission plans:

ADMISSION ROUNDS PER NACAC

http://www.nacacnet.org/ABOUTNACAC/POLICIES/Documents/SPGP.pdf</a>

Non-Restrictive Application Plans: All of these plans allow students to wait until May 1 to confirm enrollment.

• Regular Decision is the application process in which a student submits an application to an institution by a specified date and receives a decision within a reasonable and clearly stated period of time. A student may apply to other institutions without restriction.

• Rolling Admission is the application process in which an institution reviews applications as they are completed and renders admission decisions to students throughout the admission cycle. A student may apply to other institutions without restriction.

• Early Action (EA) is the application process in which students apply to an institution of preference and receive a decision well in advance of the institution’s regular response date. Students who are admitted under Early Action are not obligated to accept the institution’s offer of admission or to submit a deposit prior to May 1. Under non-restrictive Early Action, a student may apply to other colleges. Restrictive Application Plans: These are plans that allow institutions to limit students from applying to other early plans.

• Early Decision (ED) is the application process in which students make a commitment to a first-choice institution where, if admitted, they definitely will enroll. While pursuing admission under an Early Decision plan, students may apply to other institutions, but may have only one Early Decision application pending at any time. Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment. The institution must notify the applicant of the decision within a reasonable and clearly stated period of time after the Early Decision deadline. Usually, a nonrefundable deposit must be made well in advance of May 1. The institution will respond to an application for financial aid at or near the time of an offer of admission.

Institutions with Early Decision plans may restrict students from applying to other early plans. Institutions will clearly articulate their specific policies in their Early Decision agreement.

• Restrictive Early Action (REA) is the application process in which students make application to an institution of preference and receive a decision well in advance of the institution’s regular response date. Institutions with Restrictive Early Action plans place restrictions on student applications to other early plans. Institutions will clearly articulate these restrictions in their Early Action policies and agreements with students. Students who are admitted under Restrictive Early Action are not obligated to accept the institution’s offer of admission or to submit a deposit prior to May 1.

Thanks a lot Token! And i was sooo happy to see one of my letters completed too!! I hope my other teacher and GC are quick to follow.

I read on the QB FAQ that everything including recs, SRS, test scores, and transcript are due on the 30th. I must’ve missed the page where it said they want it a week earlier…could you provide the link? I hope this won’t put too much work on my teacher and counselor.

@driscol: it’s not a specific page, it just says so on the email that QB sends your teachers. It’s not due per say, they just strongly recommend turning it in by then, I’m guessing not to freak the student out and so that the web doesn’t jam like last year.

Hey,everyone I’m new to the forum. I am sorry if my post is too long. Well I am an African American female ,who comes from a single parent home. I have two younger siblings who I’ve help take care of every since middle school. Questbridge sent me an invitation to apply back in August. I want apply to Yale and Princeton. I have a 3.5 uw and 4.1 w G.P.A I attend an awful public school. I took the Sat back in March. My CR score was a 700 but my math score was a horrid 410(I am not much of a math student)My Sat subject test were a 730 in Literature and a 740 in U.S history. I have taken 3 ap’s so far and have recieved a 4 in U.S History and Eng. Lang and a 5 in Psychology. I plan to retake the Sat in October. My EC’s have been pretty limited because of my responsibility to my family but I am the captain of my school’s Quizbowl team, I am in Nhs and Interact(community service club),Editor of my school’s newspaper,I joined the tennis team back in my junior year and I participate in my city’s Seminar Enrichment Program in which various leaders, professors of colleges and experts in certain fields come to share their interests with a select group of students(we had to take this really hard test to qualify) I also write in my spare time and have one a few local awards and have been published. My app is almost done but I have one question about work experience. I’ve never had a traditional teen job such as working as cashier or sales person but I’ve baby-sat for the last three years for my neighbor’s three children. They were this really nice Japanese family and I was more of a nanny to the kids. They pretty much helped to foster my love of Japanese culture and my desire to major in East Asian Studies. So, my question is does this count as a job. I was paid decently and I was able to help my mother with the bills. If anyone could give me and answer I will be greatly appreciated. Also if someone could give me an idea of my chances that would be great. Thanks!

…the ‘happy’ mood
Happy but not VERY happy ;)

I can see 1 teacher started the rec. (says in ‘progress’)

Better that I see COMPLETED for all.

I keep checking every couple of hours

So who’s done with all of their essays?
