If you apply to a school through QuestBridge, is that an Early Decision? It seems like one because the application is due on Sept. 30… So if you apply through QuestBridge, is your decision binding?

Significa, I’m in the same boat as you. My sloth of a Journalism teacher has known since the middle of summer about my recommendation letter. He tells me every day he will get started on it but everytime I log on, I see he’s done nothing. The only reason he’s doing my rec is because I’ve known him for three years and he knows my writing inside out…If you have an easy relationship with your teacher, keep giving him a nudge from now untill the gets it done, send an email, bake him cookies or a cake with the words"Get moving!" as the icing, just don’t let him forget. That’s what I’m doing. Hope that helps.

@Shoozer: Do the short College Match quiz on the application. It explains everything.

@Everyone: I am now officially back to freaking out. One of the teacher rec questions is like…did this student have to face obstacles that may have affected grades…and i just saw it. I don’t think that my math teacher who just completed their rec knew anything like that about me…T_T kill me now. Anyone else in the same boat? I really want to die.

Panic over. Turns out ds already had given the college transcript to his GC. Doh!

He’s got two essays done, and I love his short answers. Still procrastinating on finishing that bear of an autobiographical essay. His teachers recs are in, and his GC’s part is in progress. Things are looking pretty good.

Another just COMPLETED - 2 down - 1 to go
BUT - English Teacher holding up the entire application  STILL HASN’T STARTED

@Youdon’tsay - Sounds like you’re in good shape
I’m sure DS will polish up his ‘auto’ essay

I would feel much better if things left were in MY control.

@Ju_liaa - Yep - I’m with you on that.
I don’t see how the recommenders can write/know about personal ‘obstacles’? I worked my - A:p - off at school, no complaints or special favors, and managed pretty good grades while working 2 jobs.

@GetToCollege: No kidding! XD I think that only my GC would know anything like that but it’s because of my sister who graduated last year. Hopefully she can mention that i spent a huge amount of time doing community service and watching my baby sister till like 2 AM on weeknights. In any case, whatever else they wrote that doesn’t pertain to that question should be epic lol… i need at the “Julia is awesome” i can get.

And we have just searched this thread. But how do you define “units” for a student who has taken courses from multiple different sources, including a high school that reports “units” for its courses (which seem to be the same as QuestBridge “units,” because both the high school and QuestBridge appear to have the University of California grade-point-average calculation system in mind), other high school programs that report only full high school semester courses taken (five units?), and colleges that report quarter credits and semester credits? How do we put everything on the same numerical scale for counting “units” to calculate the grade point average with best accuracy?

Whew! - English teacher did this in the AM? - guess he didn’t have many ‘raves’ vs. Math teacher last night, she took hours between IN PROGRESS and COMPLETED!

HA, Ha! - I’ll never know

Now what? I’ll be here for y’all
Onward to Oct. 23!

GOOD LUCK to all of us!
We ARE AMAZING! (named so by Flyingllama)
We deserve the BEST LIFE HAS TO OFFER!

:D :D

@tokenadult - Don’t stress those little details - ‘average’ UP and UP and let them figure it out

So as I understand it, the College Match is highly competitive because they decide to admit you AND for the Full scholarship? Is the acceptance rate lower than the usual Early Decision?

my english teacher read my essays today. when he was done, he looked at me and nodded with a smile. i felt so good knowing that the hard work that i had put in is going to pay off. ^-^

in other news, none of my teachers have started their recs… o_o

Ok So I remember reading somewhere on the QB site that on top of transcripts, test scores, school profiles, etc we ALSO need to have this years taxes faxed. Do we need to have the taxed also faxed in by Sep 30? And if we do, what’s the cover fax sheet? I don’t see it anywhere on the My Locker page. Ahhhhh. Freaking out here!!!

Yeah, you need to turn in financial forms, common app, and school-specific supplements on Nov. 2nd, after you’ve become a finalist, not to QB, but to the individual schools.

I’m confused about the binding of QuestBridge, can anyone clarify it for me???

The QuestBridge application is Early Decision, which means I can’t ED any other colleges. But then they notify you if you become a finalist at Oct. 23, which is before a lot of ED deadlines. So if you’re not a finalist, you can ED another college? If you are, then can you still ED another college?

If not, then what if you don’t make it to any schools. Does that mean you wasted your ED?

Ugh i saw my English teacher about my essay today and he said that it still need some work T_T I wanna die. So close to the deadline… so much homework…i hope i can get this all done.

By the way i was at a Brown info. session today and the admin confirmed that Brown is binding for the Match and that if you don’t get matched you can apply again through commonapp but your QB app is not directly forwarded.

Also, I’m gonna talk to a Notre Dame admin and a UPenn admin tomorrow at my school so if you guys have any questions that you want answered directly let me know so i can ask and get back to you.

“If you submit a QuestBridge application but do not become a finalist (notification of finalist status will occur on October 23, 2009), then you are released to apply to any college Early Decision or Early Action.”

Okay, what if you ARE a finalist and you don’t get matched for the Early Decision or the Regular Decision? Then you basically wasted your ED?

“If you decide not to rank any colleges for the College Match process, you are still welcome to apply and use our application forwarding service for the Regular Decision process.”

So the QuestBridge application isn’t necessarily ED? We can skip the ED part, ED another college, and use QuestBridge to apply for the partner colleges in Regular Decision?

Ahh ok then. thank you so much for the help!

Ackk I am freaking out about this entire process. Everytime I think about i get little butterflies in my stomach. I want this SO BADLY. And just out of curiosity, who else here is ranking brown?
