National Hispanic Recognition Program Cutoff

Not sure if this was already posted somewhere.

I got 185 NMSC, and was wondering if I had a chance at making the cutoff for NHRP.
I’m in Texas.

I got a 1370 with a 206 NMSC. When does Collegeboard announce if you have been commended?

The 2014 scores were,
New England
Mid Atlantic 188
South 199
Southwest 182
Midwest 197
West 186

I think Texas is southwest.

This year’s cutoffs should be lower, so I’m pretty certain you made it.

I’m not so sure that National Hispanic cut offs will go down. There is some evidence that NM Commended scores will be as high a 210, which could mean higher cut offs for NHRP and National Achievement.

The Maximum Index for the 2016 PSAT is 228. Last year it was 240. Testmasters is estimating that the new cut-off for National Merit for California will be between 209 and 213. Last year it was 223. So it seems it would go down.

At the low end the NM cutoff for Class of 2016 was 202 - North Dakota and Wyoming. Testmasters estimates 188 to 192 for Class of 2017 for those.

Someone posted these as being some of the 2015 Scores based on posts

Region 1 - New England - 185
Region 2 - Middle States-
Region 3 - Southern - 195
Region 4 - Southwestern - 181
Region 5 - Midwestern -
Region 6 - Western - 182

This year for Texas and the Southwest region is 191. You can call NHRP for the cutoff for your particular region or state.

Can you post the phone number?

@djhsmom NHRP Phone number is 866.545.8467

I looked up the phone number it is (866)545-8467. Wow, that test score is much higher than what it used to be. I guess students did a lot better this year?

So the NHRP website says they will contact eligible participants to apply online FEB-MAR. How do they contact the eligible participants?

They will send out paper mail as well as e-mail where applicable and also send lists to guidance counselors starting March 10.

I e-mailed the NHSR program because my child’s guidance department is unfamiliar with the program.

@TallyMom2017 Thanks! I’m just worried that my daughter forgot to check the Hispanic box or whatever indicator it has. It would have been helpful if the detailed report of the PSAT showed that.

@Dolemite Don’t worry about it. If you go to the site it says you can self-nominate for those that didn’t indicate. It also says the deadline to file the app is June so if you don’t hear from your daughter’s counselor in March, go the self-nominate path.

Do I have a chance at getting it with a 1370 PSAT and 206 Index? I have a 3.9 unweighted in all honors and AP, have done track 3 years, stock market club, math team, and am in the nhs.

From the people that get nominated, what percent get the NHRP scholar award?

If an Hispanic exceeds the regular National Merit cutoff, is he/she moved to the regular NMSF category?

@TooOld4School I’ve been assuming both. NHRP is separate and handled by a different group.

You can get both in name only, but not 2 monetary awards.

NHRP doesn’t have a monetary award tied to it - it’s just a recognition that other agencies can use to make awards if they wish, e.g. U of Chicago gives a 4K merit award for NHRP recipients it also gives 4K for NMF and I was told by an Admissions Counselor that a student can get both.
