National History Day.

who is doing it this year? and what is your topic?

I'm doing it again this year. I did it last year and made it to nationals but didn't place at nationals. I haven't choosen a definite topic yet.

I am!
I'm doing a group performance on the Beat Poets and their influence on the social movements of the '60s.
This is my 6th and final year competing, and my first year not doing an individual documentary. I got first at nationals last year, so i figured it was past time to change categories. lol.

Does your school have to have a program or something for you to compete? Or can you just kind of enter by yourself?

my school has a program, but I also know kids who just sign up and compete on their own. you need to contact your city or state coordinator (should be on your state website) to do that.

vegangirl -- what was your topic last year? congrats on 1st place at nationals!! My son was first in regionals but didn't place in state. He is in 7th grade this year and will be trying again. We are also in Colorado -- so we might have seen you at state. Good to know that people from Colorado do well at nationals!

cool! glad to see some other colorado faces on this forum.
My documentary was called A Small Voice, but a Strong Voice: Governor Ralph Carr and the Japanese-Americans. It was about Colorado Governor Ralph Carr and his stand to resist Japanese-American internment in the early 1940s. Good luck to your son this year!
