Who is participating National History Day this year? The theme is invention... I start to think about it.

ME!!! I’m making a movie :D

I was thinking about it… is there still time to start up without being rushed??

I was completely unaware of such a day.

^It’s an academic competition. I got to state in 9th grade but never participated again. I made a website on Geocities that now only exists on my computer.

Geocities RIP

I didn’t realize History Day had a theme. We did History Day in tenth grade, but I never knew it was themed. It was also the stupidest competition ever.

I don’t think it’s stupid. I liked it last year, that’s why I’m doing it again this year. last year my friend and I worked our butts off and got 3rd place in the county and something like 5th in the state in group documentary. I love to make movies.

Never heard of it, and apparently Google hates my computer, so I can’t look it up.

And I refuse to use that sadistic contraption only known as Bing.

I did this in 8th grade. We got 3rd in the county.

To be fair, if you didn’t know there was a theme you were also completely missing the point of the competition.

I almost participated in this in 7th grade, but then realized it was too much work and quit. Seemed kind of pointless anyways.

I completely agree. It was a mandated thing and I got *****ed at by my teacher because I had to work that Saturday.

My 8th grade sister is participating. I had no idea high school students did it as well. Weird.

My paper won $100 last year…I was going to do another one this year, and even did a ton of research, but it just kind of fell by the wayside. There’s always next year, I guess.

Cool! What was your paper about?
Last year my friend and I made a documentary on Thomas Jefferson. We didn’t think we’d get anywhere because the software i used sucked. but we got out of the county and even got 5th in the state. This year i’m making a movie about paper making history.

The title was “For Freedom, For Truth, and For Honor: Sophie Scholl and the White Rose” The White Rose was a group of German students who used nonviolent resistance to protest Adolf Hitler during the Holocaust. It was a very interesting project to research- the group had a very interesting struggle. They wrote and distributed these amazingly written leaflets that demanded that the German people reject Hitler’s regime.

it’s great. thanks watchmesoar. your links are cool.

ok, I’m almost done with my project. it’s due in two weeks - originally, that is. now with 10 days no school, it may be postponed. I’m making a display. It’s so much fun yet so time consuming.

Ours was due last Tuesday, and I’m in high school. Apparently few high schools do it, and it’s pretty big in the middle school division in my area, but I didn’t do it in middle school. It was a key source of stress and sleep deprivation for about eighty kids during the last two months lol.
