I got a letter in the mail today about this, and it informed me that it was presitgious, etc. Does anyone have any real objective information about what it is, or what it means?

Rule of thumb: If you didn't apply/test for it, don't recognize the name, and they want you to buy a book or pay for some entrance fee.. it's not worth it.

No, it's no fees attached. That's why I'm asking, otherwise I'd just assume it was a scam.

I should have written "or" up there because if you didn't apply/test for this thing, whatever attributes qualified you for this "honor" would already be present on whatever application you sent to colleges. That might be a bit awkward but do you see what I'm saying? For example, if you got a 3.8+ in highschool, which was the only thing that qualified you for the 'National Honor Roll' (there's no way they could have info on your EC's or anything else without you telling them), listing this would be redundant. The space should be used for something that would enhance your application, which this will not do.

That's a good point. Thanks.

lol i got a letter for that too i filled it out and sent it, figured it couldn't hurt... the one i regret doing though is National Society of High School Scholars, they charged me $40 for membership... oh well atleast i got a neat certificate and membership card lol... i got Who's Who as well but that one was free.

all of these things are scams. i'm amazed they aren't recognized as such.

They send letters like that a bulk rate to every kid in a wealthy zip code.

i've received 48729873498739285 of those type of letters.

one of them stated that they wanted to write my biography.

National Honor Roll or whatever it is... is fake. its just a scam to get money.
