National Honor Society as Extra Curricular

Should I include National honor society as an EC on the common app?

We basically do nothing in there except volunteer.
The only notable thing is that I'm the corresponding secretary but besides that is it pointless? Should I take it out and add a different activity instead? like winning a silver medal at my regional National History Day competition in 10th grade?

yeah the medal thing sounds more impressive, secretary sounds lame

You may put that in EC or Honors/Awards. And yes, there is not much involvement other than volunteering is required for that.

Does National History Day or something similar count as an academic award? They aren’t connected to the school or my academic achievements in the school.

I don’t see how would it be an award from the title. Did you receive something from it? It sounds more like an EC.

I got a medal. It’s an EC but I got an award for it so I don’t know where to put it :-/

I would put NHS under honors
If you don’t have many activities, include that you are corresponsing secretary as an activity
Also include the volunteering you do as an activity…so if you tutor underclassman as the volunteering, include that as an activity. If you have too man activities, include it all under “honors”

OK thank you! I will put the NHS secretary under ECs and add the other one time award things as Honors.
