In admissions to top (25-ish) colleges, how much does NHS really matter? Is it a glaring omission on an app from an otherwise stellar (grades+EC's) student? (This is, of course, provided there is no underlying plagiarism/cheating problem causing such an absence that would come up.)

Just wondering, because, although my school has an NHS chapter, I really have no desire to join it.

OMG i have the same problem. This is because my school decided to suddenly value more diversity rather than just strict numbers…I know tons of people in my school who are not in NHS but should be…the problem is colleges do not understand this…get back to me if u find out anything

mj and MDreams: do a search on “NHS”. This topic comes up practically every other day.

The answer is NO. The top 25 won’t see non-NHS membership as anything. NHS varies from school to school – some being very political, some with very stringent requirements, some whose requirements are that the body still be warm. Colleges DO understand this MDreams and therefore, they treat it accordingly.

(BTW, I’m never was in NHS. Accepted at all schools applied, graduated from one of the HYPs)
