In the "honors" section, would this be considered a national achievement?

yes, that’s what I put. :)

Although it seems weird, National Honor Society does not seem to be a national achievement since there is no national standard for selection.

It really doesn’t matter what level you choose - admission officers know what NHS is.

Common App has a help function which I consulted with the same question. It says that while it’s calls “national” it’s really a school based honor because the applications and requirements are defined and chosen by the school. You are not competing against a larger group of kids.

It’s a school award. You are entering your school’s chapter of nhs.

Bump. School or national?

School - answer can be found in Common App FAQ’s.

I believe it is school and it should be listed under EC - you have to volunteer hours for this, don’t you?

I put it under EC because I participate in it on a level that is higher than an honor. If you are listing it as an honor, however, it would be in the school level. If you are just a participant and don’t do much, it is an honor.
