National Honor Society

If a student has very good stats otherwise, does the fact they are a 2-year member of National Honor Society mean anything at all on their application? I would think not, as most good students must be accepted to NHS, but I don't see it mentioned much here. Is it because it's assumed given the high stats of others here?

If you search this site, you’ll realize that NHS has varying utility in the application process given their varying degrees of usefulness in general depending on the high school.

some high schools have varrying degrees of requirements as well, I know my school requires that all members must have a 3.75 GPA or better while others I have heard that only a 3.0 is required..

Some schools give an automatic $10,000 a year scholarship for being a NHS member. However, you can already guess then at the caliber of those schools…not even really mid-level state school level.

Thanks for your input. My GPA is 3.8 unweighted, 4.2 weighted, SAT CR & Math only at 1200. Average ECs, not as many by far as most here. I’ll trying chancing my college choices on another board. Thanks for your replies!
