Who from CC applied to the national institute of health summer programs? I hear that the program is very selective. When do they usually accept/deny applicants?

I guess it isn't popular among CC'ers, eh?

I was thinking of applying, but the thought of being alone with professors for a month and a half turned me off.

I read somewhere on the site that professors choose who they want to work with, so probably sometime in the next 2 months.

Well. On their website, it says it's extremely selective, which is something to consider. From what I heard, some say you got a good chance. Others say you got little hope unless you have connections. =(

I did indeed apply. My chances may not be too great, but I do hope I get in. =)

IMHO, for high school students, your chance is close to zero unless you have connections. This is only one person's opinion. Please let us know if you get in.

If it is based on connections... I have no shot.
Hopefully I will get in, I really want to do something medically related this summer.

Someone at my school got in. I have no idea how. Based on what I know of him, I can't say I wasn't surprised.

It probably depends on connection for >50% of applicants. However, there has to be some who get in without connections. This should be not a rigged system!

lol

I heard it's super hard because undergrads apply as well(correct me if I'm wrong)...
but am very dubious of the claim that you can only get in if you have connections.

Yeah undergrads apply as well. But then what would be the point of even having a program for high school students if no high school students get in?

Connections most probably do play a role, like they do in all things, but hopefully not as much as 50%.

Let's hope it's only 1% then. lol

Let me know if you get in Monkeystar

Yeah I got in at the national cancer institute in frederick

I got in for this summer at NIH. I am a junior in high school and I have no connections at all, like zero, with NIH.

Good luck you guys! If anyone gets in, let me know!

I applied… but my teacher submitted my recommendation too close to the deadline, so I think my chances are nil. Fingers crossed

If they still haven’t contacted me… does that mean I got rejected?
