Hi! I'm currently a junior in high school who is in the process of applying for the College Prep Scholarship and I was wondering if I should continue to even apply for both? I mean I plan on applying for the National one in August but my stats are no where near those who are considered finalist. Yes I am low income, my parents make about 45,000 together and we are a family of 6. I lost my aunt to lung cancer and my dad lost his job during my freshman year. These events had an impact on me which is why my grades started to slip . Idk what to do. My GPA isn't high nor am I in the top 10% of my graduating class. I am in the IB program at my school and so far I've been doing well. I know that I don't have much of a shot at any of these scholarships but I need some advice. My dad did end up getting a job this year and I thank The Lord everyday for it. During the course of his unempolyment, my mother had to (and still is) another job to help make ends meet. I would play the role of "Mom" when she wasn't around, trying to help my siblings out, cook for the families, run errands, etc. I will be the 1st person in my family to go to college and Notre Dame is my top school, which just so happens to be a QB partner school. I really like QuestBridge but I'm just not sure if I should do it knowing that I'm not the typical applicant :/

go for both. you never know

You think so? Thank you though.

Definitely go for both! Seriously.

Okay. It seems like I should. It’s just my grades and GPA and rank. I see the stats and I’m like whoa…so not for me. I’m smarter than what my transcript reads. Notre Dame is a partner college and its my top choice in general. I just don’t think I have what it takes to be a finalist. I read an earlier post and the guy was accepted into Brown with a 3.2 weighted GPA and I was shocked. Maybe there is hope.

Yeah you should apply to both! Also when you’re applying to colleges, there’s a space on the QB app to explain the grade slip (or any additional information that might help you), or you can get your counselor to explain on the Common App.

Thank you 2chainz!! Lol
