National Merit and Hispanic Recognition

Hi everyone, to keep it short and simple, how do colleges view the Hispanic Recognition award for the PSATs? I pretty sure I qualified for it, but not for National Merit. Do colleges look at it and so, "oh, this person did well, but not well enough to get National Merit"? OR, are they impressed by it? THanks for the info!

Well NHRP doesn’t carry as much weight as it used to in terms of “prestige” (at least I don’t think so), but there are still quite a few colleges that offer scholarships for National Hispanic Scholars. Here are some reference links:

its something to put on the app nevertheless. It will make you look better dont worry about them thinking that you arent good enough for national merit literally 3 kids from each good school get to the semis. National hispanic recognition will seperate the men from the boys in the latin american community

If you qualified for both National Merit and National Hispanic is it redundant to place both awards in the awards area?

^No it is not redundant. You should put both as they have different requirements beyond PSAT scores.

don’t worry, it’s still impressive! there’s always going to be something that seems more impressive than what you have, so try not to focus on that- if you did well enough to qualify for a selective competition like national hispanic, that’s something great to point out!
