I'm a senior this year and was recently informed I was a National Merit Finalist. In addition, I was invited down to USC to interview for the Presidential Scholarship. I plan on naming USC my number one choice for the NMF scholarship and I know that guarantees a half-tuition scholarship, but I was wondering if I were to also receive a Presidential Scholarship through the interview process if it was possibly to combine these for a full-tuition scholarship. If anyone could shed some light on the situation that would be much appreciated, thanks.

How much is the presidential for?

The Presidential Scholarship is half-tuition.

No, I had the same question and was told that the national merit is another form of the presidential scholarship and national merit scholars actually get the presidential scholarship. As explained to me, there were two routes to presidential scholarship either through the interview process or through National merit. My question was “does it make sense to go through the interview process and miss school” and the answer was “you are encouraged to interview and get a good feel for the school so that you can make the best decision”. My sense is that the interviews are also marketing pitches, to sell the school to you. You may want to call up USC and ask them the question also.

Is this half-tuition offer for freshmen year only?

^^^

All 4 years. So, for a school that costs about $55k per year, the half tuition scholarship is for about $20k…leaving you with about 35k to cover each year.
