I was just notified I made semi-finalist (TN 220) but did not receive an Application. Do you know if we were supposed to get it from the principal or if it is online somewhere?

You should receive the whole application from your school usually your counselor. Maybe they are planning to give it to you soon. The offices for National Merit require that there is no publicity or public notice before the middle of September, this seems to be interpreted many ways by schools. Anyway, the application is not very difficult. It might take 2 hours at most and isn’t due until October. Just make sure you fill it out carefully and take it seriously.

Congratulations!!

Thanks. The principal gave me a handout ABOUT the process but nothing else.

We were told it was all on-line this year, no packet.

Yes, I am talking about how they did it last year so ask your counselor.

@Dasher - My son (also in TN) received a sheet with a login ID and a password. From what I am hearing it appears to be an online process this year.

Recheck the sheets you got from your school. There shouldbe a sheet with login information, if not go back and ask. Thay may have just missed it.

I received a packet with my login ID and password and my guidance counselor told me to fill out the application and print off hard copies for the school to send out to NMSC.

Hmm, we have been doing ours and it seems to be completely electronic submissions. I don’t see how to print out a hard copy(except the rules and instructions which are a pdf file). Now, I don’t know about the school’s portion. That might be different.

How many characters does the essay space seem to hold? It doesn’t seem that big…

Check the preview. Anything inside the white space and not in the red space of the preview will show up to the National Merit people.
