So it looks like the index will go up per state?

I'm in California and I scored a 220 on my PSAT. Last year's cutoff was 216, the year before that was 212. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I'm bordering line for Semi-Finalists.

But I haven't gotten any letter yet at all for being commended?

The year before that wasn't 212. It was 216.

As the starter of this form, I have some advice to offer you. Check out the state reports for the PSAT on the college board website. Compare data from 2002, 2003, and 2004. This will give you an idea of how much the cutoffs will change by.

Some states it doesn't look very good for potential NMSF people. Could we perhaps see a 225 in one state?

Hey Haz,

Where on the CB website did you find the state reports?

Hm... If I haven't gotten a letter yet, should I be worried? (I scored a 227 this year, so I should at least make semifinalist, right? Even in CA...)

I just got my letter. My GC said that they might have been sitting on someone's desk for a couple days and that's why they were delayed. cynathis...I would definately contact my counselor if I was you.

RI and SD actually dropped points from 2004 to 2005, but all other states either stayed the same or increased.

You get all the letter around September 2005, for PSATs taken in October 2004.

SplashMom - HiWei's very right. You needn't worry about having not received your letter yet.
I live in southeast Tennessee and got a 226. I will hope very much for your daughter and everyone else in the 213-215 range that the cut-off for TN goes down to 2004 level or below!

I love being right ;)

Yes, you must take the new SAT. The old SAT with or without writing will not be accepted for NMS. NMS told emphatically told me this on the phone.

Groan Are you telling me I have to retake my old 1550 SAT for National Merit now!? That is seriously not cool.

MEHHHHHH!!! I was debating whether to take the new SAT or not, but now I guess my fate is sealed. I don't wanna take my 1580 SAT or 800 writing over again! :::throws hissy fit complete with fake tears:::
