I'm a junior and I found my pSAT score just yesterday. I was disappointed I got a 212 and I missed the cutoff by so little. Grammar is what mostly killed me I missed only two but suddenly the scale dropped me to a 710. I'm very disappointed.

Can I still get into good colleges like Rice and UT Engineering? When I take SAT and hopefully godpray I get a 2300 will that overshadow the fact I didn't get Semifinalist??

Anyone know where the commended students usually go to colleges? what universities or colleges?? Do we still have a chance for Ivyies??

Thanks for reading this! Please comment your feedback.

Oh my. I’m not even going to tell you that 212 is a good score because you really should already know that. You are worried about an aspect of the college applications that some admissions officers barely note. Believe me, it doesn’t matter. There is no set of schools commended kids go to, they are all extremely different people. Whether you can get into those colleges I cannot say, but I doubt being national merit would change those admissions decisions.

Of course you have a chance! Semifinalist doesn’t matter that much in admissions, I think it’s really just helpful for scholarships but it’s not a huge deciding factor. Work on your SAT, I think a 2300 sat will stand out much more than semifinalist

In short, the College Board emphasizes it, because they are a corporation, and benefit from every high school in America paying them to allow their students the opportunity to take the test.

That’s generally the case with the College Board. It shouldn’t be misconstrued as taking them as a malevolent entity, but they are a for-profit corporation, and that’s why they emphasize awards that are generally meaningless to most admissions officers (see: AP scholar awards).

I’m sure Texas was 219 last year. It change but not that often. Anyway 212 is a great score! I’m sure you can raise your SAT score from that but at least you weren’t a single point from the mark. Those are the people who have the right to be mad. Oh and I had the right to be mad for not living in Montana. That was the only state I would have qualified semi finalist last year.
