National Merit Commended

If I know my PSAT score is high enough to be commended for National Merit (I got a 217 in NY) but haven't received any official paperwork, is it ok if I put it on the Common App? I'm applying early action, so I want to submit it tonight.

I'm doing that - I'm in pretty much the same place as you, a 218 in NY but no official paperwork. I got the National Merit stuff last year about being nominated but I never heard anything after applying. But their website says that if you don't become a semifinalist you're still a commended scholar, and I assume they would've told me if I was a semifinalist. So I'm saying I'm a commended scholar.

I probably would.

You should've received a little certificate through your high school.

Yes, you can. More than likely, your school is saving your award to give it to you at something like an awards ceremony at the end of the school year.

That's what older S did. His school didn't give him the official award until June, but he knew that he had earned it since he had made the top 50,000, but didn't make National Merit semifinalist.

Yeah, the cutoff is 219 in NY. So we barely missed it, but we should be commended. Anything to make us look better, I guess...
