Since the national cutoff dropped 3 points this year to 200, my guess is that there will also be lower cutoffs in some states; however, at this point I think the only thing you can be pretty sure of is that the state cutoffs won't be higher than last year. And to answer your question, it was the writing portion of this year's test that was harder, forcing a lowered cutoff.

when you say the national cutoff dropped by 3 points this year, are you referring to the cutoff for commended scholars?

If anyone else got that letter saying we should name 2 colleges to send our PSAT scores to...anyone know what that's for? just to let those colleges know that we scored well? or what...

i think it just gets your name out there to the colleges to let them know that you did pretty well on the psat. they would then know that you are interested in their college and prob send you info about the college

The national cutoff for commended student was 203 last year and 200 this year, a 3 point drop. You can infer from that the semifinalist cutoff for each state will most likely be either the same or lower this time.

how are we supposed to know that are scores went through? I did mine on the computer and put in colgate and bucknell, and while i have been getting stuff from bucknell, but i have been for a while now, i havent gotten anything from colgate making be think that maybe my "order" didnt go through.

was "NB" New Brunswick or supposed to be Nebraska (NE). ?

haha man i didnt win a national merit scholarship :(
but YAY school is almost out for the year!

good luck to all you juniors applying to colleges next year! come to MA for college ;P

zoomzoom were you a finalist/semifinalist and not get money?

one missed mark ? could cost me NMSF, sadly

wow that sucks. i feel so bad for those who miss NMF by a point or two and hopefully i wont be one of them...

i'm pretty sure i'm going to miss it by one.

if not, then at most it'll be 2-3. basically...one question. :(

what was your score puppy?

Just so you know... it doesn't really matter if you're NMSF or not for college admissions.....

is the 2007 cutoff already decided?

or if places are offering semifinalists scholarships, are they using last year's cutoff to predict?

i got a 206. michigan's cutoff is usually 210. last year it went up one to 211, but it's been pretty consistent at 210. with the downward trend this year's scores have had due to the new writing curve, i'm thinking it's going to be 207 or 208. meaning i miss it by like, nothing :(

Fred,
That's pretty bold for a blanket statement. I'm sure there are some schools where it does make a difference in admissions. Even at many schools where it doesn't make a difference in admissions it most definitely makes a difference in merit aid consideration, especially since 90+% end up being finalists.

Fred, to some school NMSF or NMF makes a big difference in merit scholarship and Honors College admission. Some schools made a very strong effort in wooing NMF students and they treat them very well in the whole admission process.

hey do you guys think a 218 score in CA will be good enough?

Anyone know if a 223 for CA should be high enough for semifinal status?
