I asked my counselor about any kind of letter about it and she said she hasn't received anything but that she'd ask the principal to see if he got anything. We have a totally new administration and EVERYTHING is just about lost right now and I'm kinda nervous about them putting the letter somewhere and forgetting about it. Then again, maybe I just don't want to think that I didn't make it. Hehe.

Hi, I'm new to this site and am curious to know something. I got a 215 on my PSAT. I'm from New Orleans, and the LA cutoff this year was 209. However, I've living in Texas ever since the hurricane hit. My friends told me since i put in my New Orleans school form code and have not lived in Texas for two years, I am considered a LA resident and therefore got NMSF. Is this true? Can anyone either reaffirm or say "NO. You're wrong!"

Thanks for any help.

I think you would qualify since your residence was in LA when you took the test.

c1ue1ess88: You say you have lived in TX since the hurricane hit but then that you have not lived in TX for two years. Huh?

In any event, you should just call the NMSC (847/866-5100) and ask. This is a perfectly reasonable inquiry for them.

CAVEAT: This is all based on anonymous posts in CC, and therefore can't be considered completely reliable. We've got several conflicting data here, which probably means that people aren't being completely accurate in their posts. It's almost certainly unintentional, but it's frustrating nonetheless.

New tonight is a new 224 for MA, a little more certainty for TX and IL, etc. Here's what we've got as of now; please post if you have additional data:

Only had a sec to collate results tonight (am on a college look-see trip with my D this week) so pls check to make sure I've reflected new posts for your states correctly. Thanks.)

I am a parent new to the board. Is there anybody who else who can confirm the PA cutoff as 220(+)? Nobody has heard anything about anything from our HS, but that is not unusual. Kids didn't even get the letters that were sent out in April saying they are high scorers.

PA . .<=220? . . . +5?! . . . . . . . posts 446, 450, 452

Not that helpful. The official info will be announce on 9/18...a long wait by CC standards

Thanks to rlvj's helpful posts, I understand that there may be a separate regional cutoff for boarding school kids. Anyone have insights into what the northeast cutoff might be? Pretty high, I would imagine... Grrr, Exeter!

There must be some high schools out there in PA who have notified their students. I'm wondering whether anyone has any first hand info.

Mizo: You're right that the PA info to date isn't that helpful, but that's all there is so far -- data here are only as good as what's been posted. Re official SF announce date, it's Wednesday 9/13, not Monday 9/18. See post #354 for the link to NMSC calendar and details on next Wednesday's press release.

gratefulmom: Re regional boarding school minimums (post #360), no one ever appears to have posted them on CC, but the news that the Commended minimum is 203 (highest ever) and that MA has gone up two to 224 (post #444), two higher than the highest state minimum ever), does not bode well.

Last year (2006 Program), the full table of minimums was posted to CC on 9/1. For the 2005 Program the year before, it was posted to CC on 9/2. It's now 9/6 -- maybe someone will post it soon from an anonymous CC id, or send it to someone else using a Private Message from an anonymous CC id?

How does NSMF work for boarding school student? By state A where the boarding school is located or the state B from where student hails from?

hellousdad, it is confusing about boarding schools, and I'm not sure myself how it works. But I can point you to rlvj's posts #354 and 360 on page 24 of this thread that may shed some light...

I don't want to dash anyone else's dreams as mine have just been, but I feel duty bound to report that we have it on pretty good authority that the Michigan cutoff stayed the same at 211.

rlvj

the hurricane was in 2005. it has only been one year since i moved to texas. i don't understand what the problem is? or did you misread eh?

Thank you so much for posting the update, fredmar. You & I are in the same boat ... "just missed it". The worst part is, I figured from the start that it would at least stay the same (211). I never would have had my hopes up if not for the misguided person who thought the minimum was 209. I can't blame anyone but myself, though, because I knew very well the postings are not gospel truth. C'est la vie!

I can blame myself a little more than you. First I misread the postings, thinking the 2005 cutoffs were the ones for last year's competition with a 210 cutoff, so I was overly confident the whole way, then finally saw the real score after rlvj posted the score as a -2 and I began to catch on. So go ahead and burst my bubble. I am still proud of D for being commended, as you are too, I am sure.

PA update. I sent my GC a concerned email after i read the rumor that the cutoff may have risen more than 5 points.
I qualified at 221, and I heard that the cutoff is 217. (PA)

Best of luck to everyone.

i got nmsf with a 217 so that's probably the cutoff!

Is there any information from Connecticut out yet?

How sure are you that the cut is 211 for MI? I'm really worried now. I got a 212 and so did the person who said the cutoff was 209 so I don't even know how accurate his post is at all.
