National Merit Cutoff

I have to say though....Yes, not all semifinalists get money but the real advantage is the label. It is a plus on admission applications, and someimes the generous offers (monetary wise) that some colleges give to National Merit Finalists make it worthwhile. I received my package today ...good luck to those who are still waiting to find out..

The IL cutoff is definitely 218. My friend with a 217 didn't make it. Hope that helps anyone that's waiting...

222 is good enough to make semifinalist in new york---my school said they just got the stuff and they notified me today, so cutoff is <=222

215 isnt good enough for pa

One point, I was one point away. Ugh, I just can't believe it.

Yes, a sad club to belong to -- the one point away -- my D is a charter member. Just remember, still an honor to be a NM Commended Student. Congratulations on that.

I found out somthing that might be interesting to others, however. My D applied for a Corporate scholarship through H's employer, it is administered by NM and based on PSAT score, so I assumed that failure to make SF meant she is out of the running for that too. I called today and was told that not necessarily, there is a different cutoff for the corporate sponsored award, depends on the performance of the people who applied for it. So still a little hope.

i'm from nj i got 223 and i qualified so its 223 not 224

FredMar is right--you can still qualify for a national merit scholarship as a Commended Scholar, so don't give up hope! The key is to have a relative work for a large company that gives out a lot of scholarships. My son received the application and qualified for one as a commended scholar in 2005.

Are you people sure that the CA cut-off is 219?

How does one apply for a corporate scholarship? I thought that the merit Corp took care of that once you list your parent's employer on the application? Also, can anyone who's done this before give me some ideas as to how to approach the essay? I am a bit nervous about the process to become a finalist. Thanks

Anymore information on Michigan? I am getting nervous...

New York

commended student cut off??

892JCello - I'm in CA and got my semi-finalist notification today, and it says in the packet that the cutoff is 219, so it's definite.

Have heard from several people that the PA cutoff is 217. We have a 216. Does anyone out there know anything for sure about a 216? Our sympathies to all you people who have missed by only one point! It all seems so arbitrary, especially since last year the PA cutoff was 215. (Somehow, it would seem better to have missed it by ten points.)

I believe that how one applies for thes corporate scholarships varies by company. In our case I just happened to search for our company name and scholarships in google last year and found it, the application was due in January of 11th grade for the next year's scholarships. I would think personnel office at any major employer would have information on this type of thing.

Hi I live in Washington and I got a 219. I havn't heard anything and I'm realy, realy, realy worried. From what I've gathered the cutoff for Washington was 216 last year but I don't know for sure. Anyone have any info????? I take all college classes and don't always have the chance to stop by my highschool. Last year I wouldn't have evan been notified in April if I hadn't been bugging the principle. When he did get time to see me(after I had to make an appointment through his secratery) he seemed almost grumpy about getting the info to me so I want to know for sure before I go bug him again.

yeah, jazzyrhythms, I'm in the same boat as you, 218 in washington. My school hasnt said anything to my knowledge. I hope someone has some info :O. If not i guess we find out this wednesday

cool, thanks

and btw, last year's CA cutoff was 216, cuz this girl i knew got 216 and she got semi-finalist
