National Merit Essay...I need serious help

So my essay for National Merit is due in less than a week and I am totally stuck. I have no idea how to approach it and I'm running out of time. I know it's probably not a big deal, but I have to write * something *...

For those of you who had to write it last year: How did you approach/organize it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Anyone...?

You already received a letter saying that you are a National Merit Semifinalist?
Isn't it a little too early?

Nope, a lot of schools have released the information, and some have a deadline for the materials to be returned in a week.

I BSed it in the last minute. It actually really sucked in my opinion.

I don't remember what kind of essay it is, but just start by brainstorming, and try to find something you could write creatively about (as in, it's at least interesting enough to you that your essay wouldn't be boring).

what is the esay topic?

I haven't gotten mine yet..it's due in less than a week?!!!

Prompt: In your own words, describe your personal characteristics, accomplishments, primary interests, plans, and goals. What sets you apart? Your essay should be about 500 words.

So it sounds like you're supposed to outline all of your interests. It doesn't seem to leave room for much creativity, and it doesn't sound like they want you to choose just one thing to focus on. That's why it's confusing.

And soysauce56: Friday, Sept. 12th is my school's deadline, since the guidance department needs time to process everything. Your school's might be different.

Bump......

My school hasn't even talked about PSAT Semifinalists!!! Is it normal for a school to delay the news for such a long time?

i'll read it, pm me!

I was wondering about this as well. Should I approach it as a college essay, with more of a focus on something, or should I literally just talk about my interests, ECs, ambitions all in 500 words?

I'm in the same position..i got my letter and paperwork like two days ago and everythings due by next week...

the essay prompt is so...un-creative. it's as if they're telling you to brag about yourself...i don't know about you guys, but i'm going to try going about it in a more creative/witty way because i'd rather not bore them with my life achievements. hope that helps mflevity ^^

any other ppl wanna share their opinions? because i too am kind of stuck...i just know that i'm not going to brag....
