National Merit Finalist (Class of 2019) - rejection/acceptance letter

Nothing in Informed Delivery again today. Feeling a little better every day but I still feel like I need to change my prior status of “all clear” to “so far, so good.” I still have more anxiety than “all clear” indicates. I’ll probably be checking Informed Delivery every day until we receive official notification. It’s going to be a long couple of weeks.

A short drive from Evanston here and nothing so far. We’re in the clear, I think.

No letters here today as well. Happy waiting!

Got this message from last year worry thread:

Despite Informed Delivery saying we had no mail at all we had a big stack of mail. And at the very bottom was The Letter! Son was named an NMF despite being the most bubbly of on the bubble kids. So relieved!

For future Bubble Kids and Parents - my son had 3 (yes that is THREE) C’s freshman year. 1 first semester and 2 second semester (in English and Bio) so for English he had a C all year. The only A’s he had that year were in band and PE. The rest were B’s. His grades went up after that but he still had plenty of B’s. At least one each semester. The first time he got all A’s was this past fall semester senior year. I was absolutely convinced his grades were in no way good enough for to make Finalist. When we didn’t get the rejection letter I thought for sure it was just lost in the mail. So do not lose hope oh ye future students with C’s! Now I am off to spend the rest of the day smiling.

@texaggie Southeast, we’re both in florida

Even though the weather has been dreadful in the Midwest where we are, I will consider D19 in the clear if nothing comes today.

When is the announcement expected? Is it Feb 4th or 15th?

Schools are notified on the 4th, and they’ll send letters to homes on the 11th.

Has anybody heard of other notifications? I think I have only seen mention of 1 rejection for Finalist. I think the system is so strange - absence of a rejection does not mean acceptance I know. It would be great if they had a portal where you could check status, not sure why they delay notification of acceptance?

There is only 1 rejection because this year all applicants are so good that they confused the National Merit folks.

I just found this thread…DD is National Merit Semifinalist and still no notification of rejection today in Texas…WHEW! This waiting is brutal! Her first choice college is riding on this!!!

Hang in there @valarrie! Not too long now, hopefully. I agree though — It is strange checking the mailbox hoping NOT to see any letters! Good luck!

@valarrie, your DD is a National Merit Finalist. I can take a bet on it. So enjoy and relax!

Now that it’s February 1 and there’s been no rejection letter (including nothing in Informed Delivery today), is the consensus that we’re safe? Next week can’t come fast enough…

Of course, we are not only safe but super safe keeping our anxieties at bay. No “What ifs please” from now on.

From the national merit website
Today NMSC mailed Certificates of Merit to high school principals across the country, notifying them of which students have advanced to Finalist standing in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program… Letters to Finalists’ homes will be mailed on February 11. About 15,000 of the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2018 have met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. All Finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2019.

Thanks @aggiemom68 for the update. I saw your post and still had to dig to see that on the website. Good luck to all!

Still waiting anxiously in Texas on any word on Finalists…anyone heard from their school yet?

@valarrie - No word in Arizona yet
