Does anyone know of schools, under 5000 students, that offer free, or almost free tuition to National Merit Finalists?

University of Tulsa and Oklahoma Christian University are the two that come to mind. They both offer full ride (tuition, fees, room and board) to National Merit Finalists.

WPI in Worcester, MA offers a big scholarship, I think 17k/year

My NMS finalists children received general mail offers re full sholarships from Univ. of Oklahoma, University of Texas at Dallas, and University of Idaho. There were others I don't recall at the moment. Each school trying to build up an honors program. If you are a NMS finalist, you will get similar mailers based on your status.

University of Minnesota - Morris is a public LAC that offers full tuition to NMFs.

Take a look at the Financial Aid Forum. There are several threads over there about money and NMF status. There is a link to that Forum on the left-hand side of this screen under "Top Forums".

Good Luck!

Follow HappyMom's suggestion. Check out the Financial Aid forum where this is often discussed. A good small school which offers full tuition for NMFs is Denison U outside of Columbus OH.

Actually, Denison only offers 20 full-tuition NMF scholarships--the rest of the NMFs are only guaranteed a few thousand, although they can still be considered for other scholarships. Denison is a great choice if you're looking for merit; however, the full-tuition awards are competitive.

U. Alabama Huntsville gives FULL RIDE for NMFs.

U. Texas at Austin gives in-state tuition rates to NMFs.

U. Florida gives in-state tuition, also.

Texas A&M gives something generous, I think.

Univ of Louisiana at Lafayette (Lafayette is best city in Louisiana) gives full ride.

U. Southern Mississippi gives full ride.

Best wishes!

A lot of our kids matriculate to the University of Tulsa. We’ve heard nothing but good things - it was on my S’s short list. If your daughter is an NMF - please look into this school. Make contact with the admissions office and your counselor - they are very helpful.

Fordham should give you free tuition.

New College of FL did not offer full tuition, but basically in-state tuition. It’s a great small LAC which I couldn’t convince my daughter to go to because Florida and beach isn’t her thing.

This thread is old.

I think the UTulsa one is competitive now…not automatic.

University of Richmond and Washington and Lee offer full scholarships to some kids, not necessarily for just being a National Merit Scholar but maybe that in combination with being outstanding in other ways as well.

This thread is two years old. Good NMF schools are consolidated under Keilexandra’s thread (NMF Scholarships) in the financial aid forum.
