Has anyone received any scholarships recently from schools in response to your status as a National Merit Finalist? I got a letter from UT at Dallas, which gave full tuition, 5000$ cash prize, ~100,000 in total aid, according to the letter. Also, since I am seriously considering this, should I wait for and expect better and more offers? Thanks everyone

I also got one from...I think the University of Oklahoma? It was like $85,000

Should not wait anymore, you may pass the deadline.

shoe7525-if you are listed as "undecided" with NM then you have until the end of May to list a school as your first choice BUT some schools have an earlier deadline by which you need to make them your first choice with NM in order to be able to take advantage of that school's scholarship for NMFs. Call the schools you are thinking of attending and ask them their dates and procedures. Remember, once you list a school as first choice and they offer you a scholarship, you cannot receive/accept an offer from any other school.

I mean to apply to them, not to designate them as your first choice. D received the same info from UTD but I think you need to apply to the school. UTD letter states it's not too late.

yes, apply to the schools now, you have to be accepted to the school before they can offer you a NM scholarship officially. The first choice issue comes later.

anyone who has been through this process with NM finalist status, scholarship offers, timing of the listing of a first choice college with NM, what happens if you are offered a NM or corporate sponsored award, etc. want to chime in and give us newbies some advice?? Thanks in advance!

Yeah I have no idea how this Finalist and first choice school thing works... My top choice schools don't give any Nat Merit money. Should I still try to apply to other schools that do in case I don't get in?
