So I know there have been other threads regarding this but I am a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and I want to know if NYU gives any merit aid whatsoever for this if I put it as my first choice college. I got into NYU Stern for undergraduate finance and I am very close to sending in my deposit...but it is really expensive. I know I don't qualify need-based aid, but does NYU offer any other merit scholarships for incoming freshman...or maybe something I can apply for as a sophomore?

When my son received his FA, I tried to appeal based on financial need due to a change on salary for FY2010 as compared to FY2009. The FA officer haggled with me for a period of time (almost like in vendors in Chinatown), and then sje went over to the merit side. She asked me if he was a merit finalist, as if they had something for them. Unfortunately, he was only Merit Commended and Hispanic scholar. There was nothing for those two. Call FA and ask. You will not lose anything but a few minutes of your time. I was told that the FA awarded was pretty much going to be unchanged for the 4 years if there are no major changes in income or his GPA plummets.

I called them the other day. They give anywhere from $1000 to $2000 for national merit finalists if you list them as your first choice. I think the deadline passed though…not sure.

The deadline passed? On NM website it says it goes up until the 31st of May!
