@twoinanddone I never said that: " You said earlier that you wouldn’t squash his dreams no matter what it costs."
Please try not to misinterpret what a college student or parent says. If you are unsure as to what they
say, you can ask them to clarify it, OR you can try to move on with a new topic…
Just curious, any particular reason why u feel the need to do “ask” that question, when I made it
perfectly clear 3-4 times now that:
He gets full ride to NMF (and wanted feedback on choices)
If he might get into top STEM, we (as a family), would review offers for a possible dream
( get in 1st, compare each offer, then see what happens)
here is what I said— “Never deny a child his dream… to take away his dream is the word MISERY…
who wants to be miserable for 4 years?”
So, perhaps you can:
Find out what the dream is.
2, Give feedback on colleges that support that dream.
3, Find out how to keep the dream, as both a NMF and as a STEM student
asked son about Motto-- he agreed with it, and smiled.
but he disagreed with @twoinanddone
that’s not how he interpreted my motto, and
that’s what happens when “assumptions” are made (rather than gathering info,
coming up with concise conclusion)
Talk to an Engineer to clearly see exactly what is
being designed. :(|)
@2sunny My D sounds similar to your kid. KY has an amazing scholarship for us, but she also got into UCLA (in-state, full pay), USC (don’t know aid yet) and a couple of good Catholic Us with Full tuition (Fordham and Santa Clara). Hard choices.
@philbot I remember similar decisions and one thing we (family) factored in was the cost at Fordham for room and board, travel and just ‘life’ in NYC (including the cost of us traveling up there a few times for move in/out and the hotel costs then). Travel to and from home by plane wasn’t bad for the kids alone, given the aiport options. But our very good flagship state U at full pay was less that Fordham room and board would have been. Then again, they’d be living in NYC with all the opportunities that offers.
Still, great place and if you visit take a look at both Fordham campuses, as they are totally different!! One of ours liked Lincoln campus (small, very urban and in Manhattan if I recall correctly… the other much preferred Rose Hill in the Bronx).
Yep…hard choices (in the end our oldest opted for an Ivy and our next took a lower ranked school with a full ride…but both considered Fordham with the great NM deal!). Good luck, it is stressful but so, so nice to have options!
This has been a fantastic journey. Hope you become NMF. We have learned so much about scholarships & grants (in both public and private colleges) Reach for the stars!
Reach for the stars is a nice sentiment - for the fall. It’s getting close to commitment date and it’s important to remember that the time is actually beginning to run quite short. With only one month to go, are you any closer to an actual decision?
Daughter attending UCF on full honors National Merit Scholarship this fall. Computer Science may be the best major here. Computer Science Cyberdefense team won last three national championships beating everyone - very highly competitive. Lots of employers and interships nearby as it conjoins research park and within 45 mins to NASA. Dorms are very nice. Lots to do in Orlando. Nice facilities and very pro-honors/National Merit culture.
@crazy4info Still amazed that NMF students get full rides to many choices! It is amazing! And we learned of many other scholarships that are available… (in both public and private!) I-)
