National Merit Hopeful...

okay so i am currently a junior and scored a 222 on my psat this past fall. i am hoping and praying that this is enough to qualify me as a NMF.

If i do become a finalist... anyone know what UT(Austin) or TAMU offer as far as NMF scholarships.

several schools such as Baylor in Waco and OU have already sent me their full-tuition offers.... but what about Texas and TAMU?

anybody know?

If you go to the websites for those two schools, they will tell you if they have scholarships for NMS. The benefit of going to the website is that you know you will get the most up to date information possible, a primary source is always the best.

ok thanks alot

TAMU offers big NM scholarship packages, as does UT Dallas, Univ. of Oklahoma, and Arizona State. You will get lots of mail from them once you are named a semifinalist (if you are a junior now, you're looking at hearing in September). My son got no mail (that I remember) from UT Austin, but received a lot (and continues to receive some letters) from the schools I've listed. I know TAMU even offered airfare for him to check it out, but he did not want to go to school that far away.

ok cool.

yeah schools have been sending me mail non-stop already because of "your outstanding performance" on the PSAT

so i guess once i become a semi-finalists it will only continue.

thanks tubamom

and my Mom played tuba in the UT(Austin) marching band.

I believe Texas Tech and U of Arizona also give big NMF scholarships, maybe even free, but please check the college websites.

University of Oklahoma will give you full tuition.

yeah OU sent me a huge thing with over 100k over four years.
including like lap-top stipend ect..

If you want to look at smaller schools, the University of Tulsa offers a very nice Presidential Scholarship. I just received full tuition and room and board for 4 years. It does have a degree of competitiveness to it.

thats awesome congrats.
wat are you majoring in?

and i like your user name.

Thanks! I plan to major in Mathematics Education.

thats awesome.

i guess your currently a senior??

i'm still a little junior. :(

haha

A&M's website is kind of confusing. NMF end up with pretty much a "full-ride".
A sophomore I know who is on a NMF scholarship says it has paid for everything except for a few books.

yeah thats pretty much what i've heard from alot of people...

sounds like a good deal to me...
