<p>Wondering where your letter is? After hearing about people getting their letters last week, I called up the National Merit Corp. They told me that Fang Jr's letter was mailed Friday (to our home, since we are homeschoolers). So maybe it'll show up today.</p>

<p>I thought I had heard on a tour at 1 of the Southern CA UCs that they don't want you to send them anything until after you've got an application on file with them. Does anyone know if this is so? I don't want to bother sending anything if it's just going to be thrown out.</p>

<p>got my letter last week. 232 in WA. @ nanomug: the letter tells you that you are a top scorer and are eligible for NM to contact 2 colleges. semifinalist and commended status are determined in september</p>

<p>nanomug: It means your son will be either commended or a National Merit semifinalist. Congratulations to him!</p>
<p>The last few years, the cutoff for semifinalist in California has been around 217, so your son is unlikely to make that cut. But commended is great.</p>
