National Merit pics make students feel bad

Our public HS is also doing similar things. It used to acknowledge academic achievement (GPA) at two levels every year: high honors and honors. Now, it has only one level: honors. It also relabeled many course series (foreign languages, English, Science, etc.). For example, the French course series used to be: French 1, French 2, French 3, pre-AP French, and AP French. Now that are called: French 2, French 3, French 4, French 5, and French 6. Note the French 2 today is the old French 1 to make some students feel better.

It’s appalling that adults old enough to have children that are near college age would take out their high school-related aggression on total strangers. My D is a pretty good athlete, but also has disabilities–including social ones, since she is on the autistic spectrum… It saddens me that someone would reject her resume on the assumption she was popular and mean. And here I thought we just had to worry about her not being popular.

Sure the French classes weren’t re-labeled to make it look like kids who take only two years of a language look like they had three?

Colleges are aware of these tricks that’s why 4.0 UW GPA’s get rejected even at mid-tier colleges.

All our languages are same 1, 2, 3, 4/AP, 5/AP Lit.

I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with feelings.
