My apologies if this repeats things already covered in other threads....

My advisor told me I made the cutoff (barely) but won't give me the packet until after my school announces it...which they are now considering doing the week of Sep 18. I would like to get started pulling together what I need to fill out the application. I have seen on one thread the essay prompt (my characteristics, goals, etc - all in 500 words) and I think I read in another thread we need a chart of our most important activities. Is there anything else that I can get together so that when I finally do get the packet I will be ready to fill it out and turn it in?

Don't worry. The form can be filled out easily. You need to fill out endlessly repetitive information about your parents' names, etc. and briefly list your activities and interests. If you want to be truly ready to go on the essay, you have to print it out and stick in in a box that measures about 7 1/2 inches long and 6 1/6 inches wide. It's a shame that your school won't just give you the packet. The packet itself recommends that you RETURN it by Sep 15 so that your school can get it out by Oct 13.

Thanks Seashore. The specific info is a lot of help. I will make sure the essay I write can fit in that size of space. Does the form have to be typed? and so what are you doing with the essay, cutting and pasting it, and then copying the form? Are there any restrictions on font size, etc.?

I agree. I wish they would just give me the form. With college apps to juggle and classwork, I worry that they will give it to me one day and expect me to turn it back in the next.

The form is very old fashioned. You are to write or type the whole thing. The essay is to be typed into the space or printed and pasted. Then you return the original to your school.

I was wondering what the significance of marking a school as your first choice on this form is.

if I mark the university of chicago as my first choice on this form, and then i don't get in, would any scholarship money go to waste? could somebody please provide an explanation of the #1 school choosing part of this application?

I don't think you're supposed to attach an activity chart to the application because it says to "confine all information to the spaces provided". Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Most of the information is very basic, so you can get that done quickly.

I was wondering about the essay...is it more of a general "talk about your future plans and goals" or is it more of a specific "include activities that you've done and talk about them"?

On marking the 1st choice school, it says that Natl. Merit and corporate scholarship money is transferrable to different schools. However, specific school-sponsored scholarships are NOT. For my 1st choice school, I just put my real 1st choice, although it's not on the school sponsor list. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter and that's what we're supposed to do.
