I think the winners of the National Scholarships awarded by the NM Foundation have to be really, really stellar. There were six finalists at my daughter's school. Two of them had won major national prizes in the Intel Science Fair, only one of them made it to the National Merit Scholars-national prizes. There are many more National Merit Scholarships given out by individual colleges, they are easier to get and-ironically often for more money and the prizes awarded directly by the National Merit Foundation. However those are more selective.

as far as i'm concerned NMF for me means a full ride to TAMU. so i guess i dont really care about the scholarships as much as just being a NMF.

if i'm not in top 10 percent but still made good grades in all advanced placement courses will i still have a chance ar NMF?

222 on psat

Depending on which state you are in, you probably stand a pretty good chance of being named a semifinalist. Last year, there were only about 4-5 states that had a cutoff higher than 222 for semifinalist. Congratulations and good luck, unless you live in one of those states. You should at least be a commended. Congratulations and good luck

ya i'm in texas, we're dumb compared to some northern states.

I just started a list on the other thread "National Merit? Notifications?" and so far 3 people have received letters and posted their score and which state they are from. As more people add to the list, we could get a fairly good idea what the commended cutoff might be. Check it out

^^^^
But isn't commended cut off a national score?

Yes, commended is a national score. However some people like to track what states have results so they can figure out when they should receive their letter.

well i sure hope so...

wat did you get on your sat?
