<p>Hi! I'm new so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong forum.</p>

<p>I have to complete my National Merit application in two days, and I was wondering if anyone was able to get an extension on their deadline. The instructions say to turn it in by Sep. 12, but only to the principal, who turns it in in October. Does this mean we can get ask our principal for an exra day or so? </p>

<p>Also, in Section F, are we suppose to list a certain amount of awards, ec's, etc.? Otherwise I'd imagine everyone would try to cram in as much stuff as possible..</p>

yeah i guess you can ask your principal for a couple more days, actually for me my counselor wants us to turn it in on 9/16 (we got our stuff pretty late though).</p>

<p>yea, just write really small print and cram in everything you got!</p>

<p>Yeah, the format's kinda silly, I don't see how they expect people to write their extracurricular activities and essays on that sheet. I don't think a full, actual page would have been that hard for them. I'm actually printing out my essay, because my handwriting's... bad.</p>

<p>Lol, it's sad, somehow our school never received our packets and National Merit has to resend it. So automatic extension of deadline, since we're getting it 1-2 weeks late -.- May I ask what the essay prompt is? Might as well get a head start :(</p>

<p>But yeah, I'm sure you can get an extension from counselors since a day or two shouldn't delay them processing the information too much; and they want students to do well anyway.</p>

<p>bco, the prompt is basically, "tell us about yourself in roughly 500 words." Activities, academics, interests. That's not the exact wording, of course, but that's the gist of it. You just tell them who you are and what makes you tick.</p>

<p>In your own words, describe your personal characteristics, accomplishments, primary interests, plans, and goals. What sets you apart? Your essay should be about 500 words. Write in black ink on this form or affix a computer printed copy with nonglare tape.</p>
