Hi,

In reference to those two recommendations that the NMSC sends to college choices of qualifying PSAT takers, how important are they?

I know some 30,000 students receive these recommendations each year, so would they considerably increase your chances of being accepted, or if not, would they, even in the slightest, make you stand out from that big pool of applicants?

Thanks!

When you become NM Commended (everyone who scores above 201 or so) you get the opportunity to have NMSC send your name to 2 colleges. All this does really is get your name on the schools mailing lists. It is not going to affect their admission decisions or anything else. It lets you indicate early interest in a school, but it is not a big deal.

Oh! ok! Thanks a lot!

My D chose two small LACs that she planned to apply to, figuring that they were more likely to notice than a large university. She did get in to both of them in the end but I have no idea of her early demonstrated interest helped.
