does anyone know if berkeley takes the $2500 scholarship sponsored by national merit itself? it's not college sponsored or corporate sponsored. national merit sent me a letter saying the change to berkeley was approved but on berkeley's website, it says it only takes corporate sponsored? i just wanted to clear it up before notifying the FA office..

i'm pretty sure that berkeley doesn't take it because i think they withdrew from the national merit corporation last year

As I understand it, UC Berkeley (and any other college) will cooperate with National Merit on this one because the money comes directly from National Merit and is merely processed as a credit on fees. The UC's no longer give national merit scholarships to finalists, but that is a different issue. You can find out for sure from National Merit.

I also won the $2,500 scholarship as a high school senior and was confused about this. I had been told that Berkeley didn't "participate" in the program, and that I would essentially lose the money. But perhaps there was some confusion with regard to what actual scholarship I won, because Berkeley did eventually (I think it was near the end of first semester) take the money and it showed up on Bear Facts.
