National Merit Scholar?

Wasn't sure where to ask this... I received the thing from NMS that gave me a sign in for their site and asked me to select two first-choice college.. I wound up putting it off and totally forgot about it, and I'm pretty sure the deadline for that has passed. I'm wondering if there's anyway to still select colleges for that, like if I can mail them or something.. And if not, does not choosing any colleges for it have any effect on whether or not I become a finalist? Sorry, I don't know much about NMS...

My guidance counselor gets all the info they send to me and she wound up not giving me this thing until weeks after it had actually been sent, I'm not sure if she has any other documents that she was supposed to give to me and didn't... She doesn't know anything about it or if she does she can't be bothered to tell me.. She's not very helpful. =S Anyone know anything about it?

Nope, it does not affect whether you are a finalist or not.

I think it is too late to submit the 2 schools. But, don’t worry, not a problem. If you are a semi-finalist, you will get a letter around September. I believe the letter will give you some instructions. There are certain things you have to do to qualify for finalist. See College Board website for specifics. You would require a certain SAT score, for example. Use the website for reference and you can call College Board if necessary. Good luck!

Selecting two colleges at this point is actually meaningless. If you make the cut, NMC will sell your name to any number of schools and you’ll receive a deluge of unsolicited college recruiting mail anyway.

^Do they really sell you stuff out? lol that sounds awesome

What was your PSAT score and what state are you from?

If you made NMSF, you’ll be notified by your school by mid-Sept. If your GC is lazy, then you may have to ask for your packet if you know that you made NMSF because of your PSAT score.

The naming of the 2 schools means NOTHING at this point.

D named Rice as one of her 2 schools. They sent us a letter waiving the application fee. $70 savings for us!
