National Merit Scholars...please help us semifinalists!

What SAT + PSAT scores did you get (National Merit SCHOLARS, and not simply finalists)? Becoming a Scholar and receiving $2500 is mainly score-based, right?

Why focus on the $2500 since a NMS can be one who gets companies or college sponsor scholarships. For those that qualify for a corporation's scholarship base on the employment of his/her parents most likely will get that scholarship instead of the $2500. NM tries to spread the scholarship money around so more student will benefit from it.

^ Well the $2500 is still a lot of money. And not all of us have parents who work at one of the corporate sponsors or want to go to one of the colleges that sponsor NMSF

Any other Scholars?

Well my point is that the PSAT and SAT scores from those who got the $2500 are not a reliable indication of how NM chose those students. Being a NMSF and most likely a NMF, your chance of big scholarship is very real. There are many schools that will send you information for their scholarship programs. That is what I mean by "why focus on the $2500". Congrutulation on making the NMSF. Just focus on completing the application and you will do fine.

Thanks Christian. Bump....

No, it's not mainly score based.

Definitely not score based or URM. S (240) didn't get the $2.5k but his school (first choice) gave him $1k/year/4years which is better. Anyway, you can't double dip. NMSQT sends you an affidavit to sign that you are accepting only one award. Like Christian2 says, they seem to like to spread the money around. Make sure you have good essays in your application.
Congratulations.
