We’ve just received notice that my daughter has been selected as a recipient of the National Merit Bowdoin College Scholarship. I am trying to understand whether this award ($2000 / year) will be given in addition to grants already offered by the school, or if instead the award was already part of Bowdoin’s calculation when they first extended the offer of admission/notice of financial award. Thank you in advance!
Call the financial aid office, they are the only ones that can give an accurate answer. They might use it to replace another merit scholarship, or loans from the package, if the original package included need based aid.
Bowdoin has no other type of merit award, that I am aware of, so it’s a good bet that a National Merit Bowdoin College Scholarship will reduce need when calculating need-based aid. But calling the Bowdoin financial aid office is definitely the best first step here, if the answer is not obvious from looking at the financial aid statement provided by Bowdoin.
Hello, all - for anyone with a similar question, happily, a call to Bowdoin clarified that the National Merit Scholarship would be added to our daughter’s package.
