National Merit Scholarship

Northeastern's site says it give 30k to national merit semifinalists. Is this all I would receive? Do they normally give other scholarships with this? Need-based help? (i'm at like 100k income level).

It used to be full tuition - but changed this year to $30K a year (which times 4 years is $120K). I would not call that small. It can be combined with other financial aid, but I don’t think with 100K income you will qualify for much financial aid there (or anywhere else). Fill out the FAFSA and see what your EFC is. I don’t think they would combine it with other merit aid but since this is the first year with the new policy who knows?

I know fafsa says i have to pay like 25k ish, that would be that amount at an ivy or something. that would be covered by my national merit scholarship at NE so idk if they would give me any extra in need based. They do allow me to combine it with merit based, but is there much of that for OOS students?

Out of state vs. in state is not really relevant, since it’s a private school.

As for how this would combine with other merit aid, it’s really hard to say at this point, since this will be the first year with this new approach to National Merit scholarships. Someone in an earlier thread said that someone in admissions told them it would be possible with NM to have scholarships that stacked to full tuition, but I don’t think any of us can verify that. This is still uncharted territory for the NM scholarship.

The National Merit scholarships are for National Merit finalists. There is no specific scholarship for NM semifinalsts who do not make finalist.
