When do we get notified that we get the award? I sent in my college choice three weeks ago, and haven't heard back yet.

Doesn't every finalist get money from Rice, or did I misread something?

Doesn't every finalist get money from Rice, or did I misread something?

yah, everybody gets $750 or more (if you have additional need).

That's good that everyone's guaranteed to get some money. I hope to hear back from them soon.

wait... I'm a national merit finalist, does that mean I automatically get money? where did u read this? I would like to know for sure, esp since I haven't received any notification/details about this.

however, they take the national merit award out of your grant money (from need-based aid), so you'll probably not actually benefit from it.... sorry

haha thats true...its like giving u something and taking it back ahah..sorry

What about people who didn't get financial aid? Do they still get $750?

... Or do they get nothing?

Everyone gets the $750, it's just Rice policy to deduct any merit awards sent to them by outside groups from your need-based awards. The exceptions to this are trustee-distinguished awards, and maybe some other Rice-sponsored scholarships. If you're expecting award money, make sure the check is made out to you, not Rice, to ensure that you don't loose need-based money.

well even that you have to report on your tax form

oh.... the award is senseless cuz they take it outta their own grant money? great...
