National Merit Scholarships

What are UF's National Merit Scholarship packages like for OOS students? I'm considering applying but I can't find any info on the package so I can't decide if it's worth my time.

I know it's past the priority deadline but I've been told that being National Merit plus having good grades and SAT scores would mean they'd probably take me anyways.

Also, the web site says all OOS students who apply by January 13 are considered for a $2500 tuition waiver. So would that mean that I should be good?

u never know, u might get in

loneranger, funny to bump into you on this thread!

Unfortunately they have stopped with the virtually free ride approach of 9500 per year, waiving oos tuition and 2000 extra educational stipend. I think fall of 2006 was the last year.

My son applied in 2005 way past the deadline and it was fine. There was a specific person who was responsible for recruiting NMF's at the time, she was his contact. If you want her name, PM me, I think she is now the asst director of the Honor's Program, but she is awesome and I'm sure she'd answer any questions that you might have.

40% sounds outrageous until you multiply it by $3200. Since most freshmen are Bright Futures it's even better (40% of 0).

^^^
I thought that the increase that the legislature was allowing UF, FSU, and USF was not to be covered by bright futures next year. This would be an additional "fee" that students would have to pay separate from bright futures, which was the only way they could get that passed ... as no one wanted to increase what BF would be paying.
