National Merit Semi-finalist!!

From what I hear, they don't get released for a while.

Elphaba88, what was your PSAT score? Congrats on the semifinalist honor!

So wait...does this have anything to do with the litte star that was NOT next to the score? I remember the PSAT score report said something about the star being not present, but I don't remember if it has anything to do with this.

Yea, this might be a dumb question

I don't remember exactly, but I think the star was something about eligibility. It was there or not there depending if you were a junior or sophomore. I'm not sure.

My score was nothing to brag about, a 220.

congrats elphaba88, my S is waiting to hear in central ny. they don't go back to school til sept. 7!!

me too. the summer's gone by so fast!

Blah... I have to wait until they mail the results to my house. Stupid homeschooling...

But I suppose it doesn't matter. Next May I'll (hopefully) be off to boot camp, effectively throwing me out of the competition. Oh well. At least I'll get to put "semi-finalist" on my future college applications.

It's so unfair that every state has different standards. That needs to go out of the window right now.

Agreed.

(10 char.)

aggh...so close

Me tooooo.

I am borderline according to 2005 cutoffs. I hope the principal call me today.

what scores do you need in each state to be commended? i know i won't be a semifinalist, but im hoping for commended (in maryland).

usually the numbers are close...only vary by a point or two.....you may be close but it gives you a good idea of your status. Look earlier in this thread

The commended cutoff is the same nation-wide and I think last year it was a 202.

NE Boarding Schools are in a separate pool.....what was that cutoff last year? Kids at these schools are not pooled with their home state nor the state in which the boarding school resides.

Is the cutoff higher for boarding schools?

It is usually 221/222/223 for the cutoff. This would be the New England Pool covering all boarding schools in that area. They have MidAtlantic, Northwest it is divided into regions unlike the states.

It depends where you live. in Texas its 214-218.

HOw did you guys prepare if you did at all?

i had taken an SAT course over the summer. i didn't even look at my books again before the test and i got a 233 (800 math, 800 writing, 730 verbal). How ironic... i studied for the SAT's and my best combined score is still 50 points lower than that :(
