it looks like there is now some doubt about the qualifying score in Ohio. Has anyone else had a confirming score?

Given the questions surrounding NY and now OH, I think the caveat from the original post bears repeating:

Please note: Be conscientious as you post scores on this thread–it would be crushing to be led to believe you have made the cutoff by a post but actually haven’t. But everyone should be tolerant of mistakes, too. This is an unofficial source of information derived from a collaborative process and is not, therefore, guaranteed.

PLEASE DON’T FREAK OUT! Check the explanation of the notation in the first post. When you see, for instance, AZ <= 219, that means that Arizona’s cutoff is no higher than 219. This comes from a report like, “I live in Arizona, made a 219, and got my letter.” When you see, for instance, TX > 216, that means that Texas’ cutoff is higher than 216. This comes from a report like, “I live in Texas, made a 216, and didn’t make it.”

10(?) Boarding school regions
No scores reported yet.
These usually are set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among the individual states in the region.

Internationals=?
This usually is set to be equal to the highest cut-off score among all the individual states.

Commended (national cutoff) = 202 (Class of 2012 Notification Letters - College Confidential)
Any person with a score equal to or higher than this cutoff who is not a NMSF receives commended status. This group represents the highest 50,000 scorers.

Ohio929496 – No doubt whatsoever in Ohio. I have personally seen the Ohio breakdown of scores with the cut-off score of 214 clearly asterisked. I also know a student with 214 who is a NMSF and a student with 213 who is commended.

Two other thoughts for the day before official notification day:

NMSC doesn’t distribute a list like this, so this thread has value after notification day. Please help complete it by reporting your scores when you get them.

If you’re expecting a notification and don’t get one, don’t freak out. You can call NMSC (beginning tomorrow) and ask for the cutoff for your state. If what we have here is incorrect, please let us know. If it is correct and you don’t have the notification, it’s time to approach your GC and/or principal. Sometimes, things just get misrouted.

Congratulations to those who have made it; best wishes to those still hanging; and a pat on the back to those who didn’t. Our family falls into that last category and knows how you feel.

S in with 215 MN. Cutoff per principal is 215.

was told by my gs that NJ cutoff is 223.

greatly relieved for my daughter (218).

First post for Delaware, my d is in with a 219.

By the way, for those noting that the cutoffs went up this year in many states, I noticed that the cutoff in Delaware was 219 for 5 years or more until it was 215 last year. So if it goes back up to 219 this year, (+4) it is just returning to a more normal spot.

We’ll be able to sort out the disputed cut-offs when they become publicly available (by phone) tomorrow.

Where can we find the official list of state cutoffs tomorrow? D in VA has score equal to last year’s cutoff (218), and given that nearly all states have gone up, we just want to find out and end the agony already! (And try not to dwell on the fact that she would have made NMSF in most other states, and even here in most other years.)

Fan o’Bill,

Try calling National Merit tomorrow. They will tell you the scores then.

Per the original post:
NMSC can be less than transparent at times. They do not publish (and will not provide if asked, if I’m not mistaken) a list of the type we have here. That’s one reason why CC users have traditionally gone through this process each year.

Alas, there is no such list generally available. That is one reason for our compiling one here. However the NMSC will make minimal qualifying scores available on a one-state-per-call basis tomorrow (or perhaps the day after tomorrow).

SteveC: Cross-posted. Great minds think alike. But so do mediocre ones, so we cannot draw any conclusions.

Great minds quote A Midsummer Night’s Dream to a poster named “shakespearefan;” mediocre minds refer him to the original post. :o

Possibly the coolest post I’ve seen on CC since Brooklynborndad cited Kohelet in Hebrew.

It seemed appropriate as I am sure so many disputed scores has led to confusion among the quick bright posters.

Here in NY public school–GC told me today that S made SF with a 221. The delay in notifying us is from trying to put all the info. on line. Can’t wait for the students to be told!

Son in MN is NMSF with 215. Just got letter from school today.

Did not make it in OR with a 215. The cutoff has gone up. Yay.

Confirming Florida here… D did not
Make it with a 213, last years number was 210 ; (

Something cc posters have done in the past is call for other states’ numbers, just to be helpful. I have a junior this year so these numbers don’t apply to me, but I’m concerned that our state apparently went up four points.
