National Merit Semifinalist

Received the notification. Based on GPA and SAT/ACT score, it is likely to be the National Merit Finalist.
About 16,000 students made the semifinalist this year. Not quite clear how this helps to get merit scholarship at a particular college. Some universities/colleges could offer scholarship package to the students who name the university as their college of choice.

Is there somewhere to find out the scholarship package by school(s) ?

School list is available. While for the package, you need to find out from each school as it may change ear to year. The previous list at http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com/ may be outdated. Like USC is no longer offering half tuition automatically. It can be as big as full tuition or full ride to a very small non-renewable scholarship. In addition, many schools offer merit scholarship for a similar score in SAT too.

Of these schools, I believe only University of Southern California offers a merit award (is it still 1/2 tuition?) to NMS finalists…but I guess it’s not guaranteed any longer according to the post above. They can be in the running for a full tuition award which is not guaranteed.

The others don’t.

Your kiddo, however, would get quite a good scholarship from University of Alabama. @mom2collegekids could you explain the guaranteed merit award that Alabama gives to NMS finalists.

I believe Oklahoma also has a generous award for NMS finalists.

This thread has updated information about guaranteed merit awards based on stats…so you might also want to look at that.

Note that ACT cannot be used as the confirming score. If your student has only an ACT score as you listed in your chances thread, they will need to take the SAT soon if you want them to be able to be a Finalist.
